How do I join?

I don't use FaceBook very much so I am a bit green. I pressed the button to join the group but nothing happened except the button changed to cancel request. Does someone have to Authorise my application or what?

Yes. Typically, someone will need to authorize your "application".

Without joining the group, you can see the posts, but as a group member, it looks like you can post, too.

Lewis, I have never started a facebook group, so I wouldn't know how to manage this. Is there any way to create, like Duolingo, a permanent link right there to some guidelines that people have to follow? We're bound to have trolls, and that would be good to have.

So I was thinking, what can we do to set this site apart and engage in fun conversations? By way of example, how about a food topic? What hispanic based foods do you get to enjoy? Tapas, tamales, mole, cheeses, regional beverages, Taco Belle? Can we try a for a minimum of a Spanish summary added, if the discussion is in English? Oh and why not an English summary, if the discussion is in Spanish? I'm sure there are a lot of these topics that can help us lean to use our Spanish. Just an idea.

You can go on Duolingo, but not Facebook?

I'm homeschooled and Duolingo is part of my school so I can't go on Facebook until my school is done for the day.

If you are still around, I appreciate if you can take a look at my post below regarding my recent experience. From your comments you seemed concerned about proper functioning of this group for achieving its mission.

Finally. I've been looking for a Duolingo Spanish Learners Facebook group. I'm part of the Esperanto Duolingo Facebook group, so I have been really missing a warm, friendly group while I'm learning Spanish. Thanks Lewis for starting a group for Spanish.

Until a few days ago I was a member of this group. I have helped in numerous threads. You can go check for yourselves.

Recently, there has been increasing spam in the group. I am not a purist but what I expected from a group targeted for Spanish learning to have posts somehow related to Spanish in some way, however small it might be. Is this too much to ask?

Well, I complained in a thread initiated by someone that repeatedly posts non-Spanish jokes etc. The thread is about the English word for a fruit that when you take away first letter away, it is a word for crime, and when you take two letters it is an animal. I was told my one of administrators that just to move on. I was upset by the attitude of the admin given I wanted the group to stick to its original mission and so I replied to the admin in the same thread reminding about the mission and administrators responsibility to maintain it and went back to assisting others in a few other threads.

Next, without any further warning, a couple of days later, I find that I am banned by the group. Punishing the people that are helping and keeping the spammer around instead is not what I expected to happen but it did. It is sad. I am not sure if this is a shared sentiment by all admins. This admin as far as I know is not one of the original admins.

Why am I posting this? Sure, I would like to get my membership back and being unblocked since I don't think the treatment I had was justified. I am hoping that there are more level headed admins that are seriously interested in keeping the mission of the group intact.
