So... I have a 2664 day streak
I was going on a tramp to a little old hut somewhere in new Zealands authrs pass. so I got duolingo plus so I could do my jap lessons offline, long story short once I got home and finally connected to the internet, my day streak had a fit and started growing, really fast and just stopped at exactly 2663 days, i dont know what to do, I hope I don't get banned or something whack.
Now, I don't pretend to be an expert in this field, but on Duome.eu there have been 5 or 6 people in the past week who have experienced this problem, and I noticed that all of them had Duolingo Plus (with the exception of @hillmarcia and @clintjterry, but they have had broken streaks for a long time now). My thought is that it has something to do with the offline feature that Plus has, but I don't know. Just my thoughts :)
He went to New Zealand. Maybe something related to him getting back online on a date earlier than the one when he was offline (i.e.: "the day before")? It would be a classic software development oversight.
Thats's really interesting! On duome.eu there have been 5 users in the past week that have gotten streaks longer than Duo has been around, so obviously you're not the only one who has experienced this. You won't get banned or anything from Duolingo themselves, because I don't think they really care about this kind of thing, but you will be disqualified from the leaderboards on duome.eu (your name will be crossed out).
Anyway, hopefully Duo can find out what the problem is and fix it so this doesn't happen to other users. In the meantime, enjoy having the 5th longest (illegitimate) streak on Duo :D
There is a pattern too. Only plus members have been having their streaks increased ridiculously. Almost makes me want to get plus just to get an insane streak ;P
And I'm breaking my 413 day streak today because of the Club closure. Duolingo just wants to get more money of the Leaderboards depriving us of space to interact and becoming callous. There should be a choice!
I'm also turning off the "Make my profile public" option in the privacy settings (https://www.duolingo.com/settings/privacy).
