New Leagues in Duolingo
I do not like the new leagues in duolingo. I feel that it does not have enough privacy. For one, they are putting your real name as your name in the leaderboard. Also, we are not able to compete with our friends. I think that it would be better if they added the lingots for top 3, but kept us in our own clubs. Now, I have no way of communicating with my friends on duolingo. Please tell me if you feel the same way, or if it is just me. Thanks!
You don't have to enter your real name anywhere; I certainly don't.
Otherwise, I entirely agree with you.
What is the point of leagues and friends? You cannot communicate with friends, and they are in your league one week and then never again. How do leagues and friends improve you language skills?
I see no motivation at all in competing against strangers who are learning a different language and are here one week and gone the next. It is not comprehensible to me why some people see any attraction in cheating or piling on points to get ahead of strangers who are not interested in this game. And to do it in a league for a week, then start again the next. Senseless self stimulation.
It would make more sense to have language based groups, with subgroups on specific topics, that people could join and communicate, with a focus not on points but being able to communicate in a language.
very competitive. I just left my title as first place in the sapphire league and entered the ruby league just now and this Alessia user desperately tried to beat me but here were the top 5 in the Sapphire League: 1.reimesombrero (me) 2.Alessia 3.Cindy 4.jhoni 5.Denin Triana Also, Where is my first place prize?
I don't wish to be in this community either and I didn't have a choice. It just showed up! I agree 100%!
I completely understand you! I don't wish to have other users feeling the need to compete with me, to know my name, and to see all my points and XP! I wish there was an option to leave and not participate!
I don't have friend here anyway, so I don't care. imho it's quite motivating to compete with strangers!
Garpike, even if you do not enter your name, it still shows at least your first name.
Pentaan, The thing is that then there is zero motivation to do duolingo besides learning the language. Learning the language is a pretty big motivator, but having lingots fels good. I think they should add the lingots system to the club leaderboards.
I totally don’t understand what this is about. Where do they get these xp points? They don’t bear any relationship to the actual points I earned today. If anyone can explain I will be grateful.
XP points do have a relationship to the points you earned today. You get 10 XP points for completing a lesson. If you do a duolingo story, you get 10 XP plus the extra you earn from answering questions. You can earn 20 XP if you test out of a skill. In these new leagues, whoever has the top XP points in the league, get a promotion. If you are in the top 3, you get lingots. Your XP points were also used to win in your club earlier.
Why isn't it showing the same name as in the Duolingo forum? I think most users will agree that they do not wish to share their name with the community, we chose a user name for a reason. Although I am very happy that they introduced this league system and I feel like learning languages is starting to feel like a game, making me learn even more. Congrats to the team for introducing this shizzle.
I also totally agree. At least in clubs you were 'competing' against those learning the same language and could interact with them. I'm certainly not a fan of these leagues. Was any research done before they were introduced? Where is the value, because I don't see it. A definite step in the wrong direction IMHO.
