Please, no posts about about ARMY/KPOP/BTS unrelated to learning
This is a Korean langauge forum, not a KPOP fangirl/boy forum
Exactly. I like some Kpop groups but I would like to see more people posting things connected to learning Korean (like, why is everyone talking about loving groups when they never post things like websites that show song lyrics people can learn how to read?). It’s fine to learn Korean because you like music from Korea but the forums are language forums.... which means the topics should be about language in general (and specific languages that pertain to each subforum, and the Duolingo website). At the least point to other resources or express you adoration of the music in the language you want to learn so badly.
I know that I am a K-pop fangirl, but I am not learning this language just in case I meet a K-pop idol. Listening through K-pop music and watching K-dramas actually improved my Korean A LOT. I also want to learn Korean because I am thinking of studying in Korea as an exchange student.
Yeah ,you are right ,because many people who loves kpop members learn their language.
I personally like watching K-Dramas, so learning the whole language is useful.
Hi, I also do not advocate comments "some K-Poper here" or "some ARMY follows me", since this is not the focus of the Korean forum. But many people are motivated to learn Korean because of K-Pop groups, and I believe I can talk about K-Pop and such, but with a focus on language.I think people could talk about their favorite K-Pop groups, but in a collaborative and relevant way to really learn Korean. Thanks!
I don't mind if people want to share their recommendations for singers/bands in Korean music here in the forums or ask for recommendations for Korean music, as Korean music is part of Korean media (which is needed for putting the language you are learning into practice). But people shouldn't post about Kpop groups or singers' business and their fans and whatever irrelevant stuff unrelated to learning Korean.
Exactly, coz of Korean singer many peaple learn korean ,but with this thing we should never neglect this thing that we are learning here.
Kpop and dramas is what keeps me motivated to learn Korean but I'm not just learning for those reasons. I plan to be fluent and I feel that Kpop and Kdramas is what keeps many Korean-learners motivated as well which is why I post about those things sometimes. I just don't want my ARMY friends to give up.
I completely agree with you. Kpop and Kdrama were what motivated me to start learning Korean, but of course those aren't the only reasons I'm learning it. They were what introduced me to the Korean culture, and I'm grateful for that. I believe that being motivated by Kpop and Kdramas is a good reason to be motivated, maybe not the whole reason you learn the language, but as motivation it's completely fine. Also, many people who were motivated by this kept it as motivation the whole way through and that proves you can use it as motivation. I just had to speak up, I don't mean to offend anyone or be rude.
Yeah I know that it sometimes gets out of hand (I mean I'm guilty of this myself tbh!) But making posts about it isn't going to help. There's already SO many posts that have been made so instead of constantly complaining about it, filling the forum with "no more k pop in the forum" posts, and hating on the people who talk about it in the forum/comments section maybe find a way to actually do something about it...that is, without going into every k pop based post and downvoting, and posting rude "k pop is not relevant to learning this language" (Which is actually extremely false because a lot of people learn it BECAUSE of kpop) but, you know. That sort of thing. Also no disrespect is meant by this comment, so please don't think I'm trying to be rude. I agree with your argument but I'm just saying please find a respectful way to resolve the issue at hand. I mean, you're a moderator right? Surely there's something you can do about it if it's such a huge issue. Again, no disrespect I'm just wondering. 감사 합니다!
YES you are absolutly correct, but we can't avoid them because their popularity is in existence.
I like listening to Kpop and BTS too, and I do give people recommendations for Korean music if they want to listen to it to learn the language or have more exposure to the media. But I am not one of the fanboys/fangirls who obsess over it, nor am I part of the ARMY.
what if its like : type good things about bts in korean so i can try to translate it ....is that good or no
Actually, that's a really good idea. I think trying to translate things your into would be a good way to learn as it would catch your interest well. I think that'd be awesome!
Thank you for this post! I get really annoyed when people make posts about Kpop on the forums and when people learn Korean only because of Kpop, while ignoring other parts of Korean culture. Some questions in the Korean course have people making a lot of comments about ARMY and BTS. When you learn a language you have to get into the culture and the country that speaks the language, not for the sole purpose of something based off of pop culture or fiction!
All the kpop/bts posts will go away the farther you get in the tree. I think that after "polite moods" they are all gone, because they got demotivated.
I think so. I'm also an ARMY but I don't like people mentioning Kpop issues on forums.
Thanks to this comment .... for example jajaja, I am learning English with the publications ... against the excess of K pop... But it´s true..that they only post post post kpop.
BTS actually helps a lot of people, and the vast majority of ARMY is very kind...
I'm not telling you to listen to their music or to necessarily "like them", but I don't understand why you'd "really not like" them? I'm curious, not trying to attack you with a keyboard :)
I completely and wholeheartedly agree. I enjoy K-Pop and things like that, but I'm not sitting there filling up the forums with stuff about them. I actually want to learn the language and it gets really annoying when all you see are ARMY talking about BTS and other groups. And I'm not simply learning the language to understand the songs. I actually started learning Korean before I knew about K-Pop and things like that.
Thanks for your response, I share the same view. I noticed today that a lot of Kpop fans or the ARMY here are downvoting our comments because they don't like that we are expressing our criticism of people posting Kpop/BTS/ARMY posts/comments.
i am maybe a k-pop fan and you will probably think that is the reason why I and a lot of people learn Korean but remember that there are also a lot people who don't speak Korean while they are Korean like me my parents are both Korean and both moved to the Netherlands but I grew up here so I can only speak Dutch while I want to communicate properly with my parents because they are not really good in Dutch and my sisters and brother can speak it too so for me just why not
Just an aside. You speak English pretty well at least. At least that'll allow you to go to university in the United States (or Oxbridge in England) and get a decent job at Bain/McKinsey/BCG/GS/MS, etc. Granted your grades are good in secondary school, knowing English well is probably the best thing for future success.
At this point, people are disliking and criticizing people who ask others to stop. You should all respect them, and not try to argue. Thats not the point. The point is to take their point into consideration, and then act upon what you consider then. Let's not mistake this "consideration" as a chance to strike back, but moreover use it to understand their point in argument and maybe learn something new. If you still disagree, then state your point respectfully, and see what comes from that point. Just do this all respectfully please, we dont need anymore online fights and this is not what duolingo is for. Have a nice day, and please take my words into account :)
i dont mind if online forum has popular korean threads especially if phrases, slang or regional language differences are discussed.
Prefer that instead of in actual language lessons.
it will be sad if there are 40 kpop comments in a lesson and no helping each other understand the lesson.
K-pop is what inspired me to learn Korean. I want to understand their music because I really, really enjoy it! I think there's nothing wrong with that. But it's true, these aren't K-pop forums. I mean... if you mention "Hi ARMY!" at the end of your on-topic message that's okay, right? I think that'd be fine, I don't see why that should annoy anyone. I understand what you mean though ~
