Do you think Doulingo should have more in the shop?
I think Doulingo should have more stuff to spend lingots on because I have a lot of lingots and I don't know what to do with them. What should I do with them?
Oh yes, most definitely, there should be more in the shop! I think each level of difficulty should have unlockable courses, like they do with flirting and idioms.
Also, maybe a game section where you can buy word games in your chosen language for example, crossword puzzles or word search/find the word puzzles, that can cost more and give more xp with higher difficulties.
I don't know exactly how this could be implemented, but maybe a user could pay a few lingots to be matched up with another random user or admin/dev to have a short conversation about a given topic (I know, at least for me, this would help out immensely because I have no native speakers around to practice speaking or even just making up my own sentences (hopefully correctly). It is said that it takes a million mistakes to learn a language and I, for one, would like the opportunity to make more.
Another idea may actually cost a user some real currency or a major amount of the fake stuff. One of the few things I still remember from my French class in high school (over 15 years ago) are the songs we used to sing along to. Those catchy little tunes will stick for you forever. So, I don't know if duolingo would have to charge a few bucks per song or charge another optional monthly fee for the service or just find free songs in the public domain to sing along to or you guys could just go to youtube where they already have videos with the song and lyrics. Check out Les Champs-Élysées for a French class favorite and Pink Martini have some good songs; Sympathique is a good one.
Well that's just a few ideas for now, I hope that helps. And I really do hope to see an expanded version of the shop.
!.) Longer streak freezes for increasingly larger amounts (incentive to study up in advance of a trip/break), e.g. 10 lingots for 1 day, 50 for 2 days, 100 for 3 days, etc.
2.) More idioms or specialty lingo. Things like Holidays /special event greetings (Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Happy anniversary, etc.), or how to read a menu/common food items to order, sports lingo, silly euphemisms, things with double meanings that non native speakers should know when to use or NOT use (and why!).
3.) Common songs or nursery rhymes. Cultural tidbits like myths/monsters/superstitions.
4.) Etiquette, if that is important in a culture/language group like how to address bosses, elders, children (if different word forms are used in each for introductions or addressing). Whether (or when) you can talk (or not talk) at meals, at a show, elbows on the table or no?, ice or no ice in a drink?, etc. Things that you learn in childhood in your own culture but can be at a loss as an adult in another culture - as we learn languages we will want to maybe visit places? Extra lessons like these for lingots could be helpful.
Definitely agree with the longer streak freezes. I’m rapidly approaching 1000 days and whilst I have rarely used them (just lower your daily target and do one lesson or redo an old one if you are that short on time) It might be nice to go one holiday and not think duolingo each morning. I now have just short of 6000 lingots
I agree. I've already bought everything and my lingots have become practically useless now.
I think that most users who have been here more than 3 months have the problem.
You can use Lingots to buy the opportunity to test out of a set of lessons, too?
Same here!! (Not meaning to try to steal your thunder, @LorenaRay)!! I want to see how many I can get!
I think adding more costumes to dress the duo owl in would be great (at least for mobile users). Plus an option to have a random costume you own used every time he pops up. That would add a feeling of progress as you unlock more costumes and more than just your favorite would see use. Plus with them being so simple it shouldn't take too much effort and time to create them.
I also like the idea of unlockable themes and more customization.
How about owl dyes, for different colours of owl? After all, owls are not normally green.
I find the costumes pointless and stupid. I don't care. At all. And that makes me not care about lingots in their current form.
What I want is to have more practical things I can can spend them on that will help me to learn and practice my target language.
I think a lingot-paying system for kids and parents.. Kids could earn lingots and "sell" them for more screen time, spending money, etc. Maybe you could buy customized profile pictures or avatars. Or themes for the site/app! More, special stories? A streak freeze that lasts for over the weekend? Or something that you can just give to a friend without hunting through the discuss tab for any post they made so you can give to them.
new feature: if you have a lot of lingots, and duolingo has taken your family away, you can be allowed to see them for a restricted amount of time depending on the number of lingots you have
So....(kinda off topic) What is this thing about "Taking my family away"? I'm seeing it all over social media and there's no explanation.
Hahaha! It's a meme because of Duolingo's pretty... intense notifications. I personally really like the reminders, but apparently some people find them a bit too much. Love the meme tho.
I agree, I have more lingots than I know what to do with and nothing to spend them on.
I was going to give you a lingot until I saw the Edit :D I agree with the things in the shop! Or maybe the lingots can be use for something else (I will try to come with a suggestion, I haven't really elaborate the idea)
some people suggested an arcade on Duolingo with language learning based games
That would be awesome! People would like to be on Duolingo more often (I assume) because it could be really fun!
Yeah, I've already bought everything available and I don't know what to do with all the lingots I've got...
I would love to see more specialty lessons that build out like a "web." The language "tree" model works really well for building a foundation in the language, but then say, for example, you want to know more advanced/specific terminology about sports (equipment, moves/techniques), music (theory terms, notation), etc., you could pay lingots to "branch" your way out further along the web. Not everyone here wants or needs to know how to say in their target language that they struck out in baseball, but if baseball's something you care about, you'd get a chance to dig deeper without having to look for other resources.
P.S. Here are a few lingots. You can't tell me what to do. :)
I would love to be able to "purchase" a 7-day streak freeze with lingots for when I go on holiday without an internet connection. Even if it were for around 1000 lingots, I would do it.
I have a trip to Indonesia this July (which is why I'm learning Bahasa Indonesia), but I'm afraid I will lose my streak after my immersion with the language. :(
Yes there definitely should be some more content! Maybe some more additional skills or just more levels of the two skills they have (flirting and the idioms). Maybe just make those about 5 levels like a normal skill.
Additionally, I think there should be some more achievements or there should be a good award like lingots for completing them. Maybe something like 2 lingots for star #1, 4 for star #2, and 10 for star #3 ( I am exagerrating a lot tho XD).
I completely agree. Achievements are a huge motivation for me and I am sure others as well....there aren't very many achievement options on here and when you have them completed, your achievements are the basics of your language learning. More in-depth achievements categories would be awesome.
Look, people make mistakes! We can very well learn a language, but getting things wrong and being corrected in this way is normal!
If you are going to correct someone, maybe do it a little more kindly? It's far too blunt - it looks rude in this way.
1) I want to suggest being able to use premium abilities for ridiculous amount of lingots. So it will be fair to them and the regular lingot miners.
2) If we could buy themes for the website and app (dark, forest, space, pink clouds etc) it would be great.
3) Some items for our profiles? Like avatar or avatar room items. It will become a personal expression of our culture and interests. We could have items for cultures of available languages. I would go crazy over it and work extra extra to get the best of it. They can also be progress or rank locked
4) It would be nice if I could transfer lingots to friends so they can buy their weekend amulets and such.
5) We could also use lingots as game coins to language based games to win more maybe?
6) Class options for sale. So teachers, classrooms and language groups can have communal practice
7) Items you can only be gifted by other players! A token of friendship and community and a way to show affection to fellow duolingoists
8) A parent lingot disposal system. I know a few parents that let their kids buy computer time and stuff like that with their duolingo progress.
9) Lottery tickets for language education travels. Only those in high ranks can buy them for expensive lingot investments. Or the tickets can be for entries of the language qualification test of your main language. I would buy one for German Testdaf 6 or Goethe.
10) Duolingo merchandise for the die hard fans. Patches, stickers and pins!
11) My last suggestion will be real life humanitarian investment. If you know the app "Forest" its for reducing procrastination and screen time. The only reason I use it is because you can plant an actual tree in deforested areas with big amounts of ingame money. It even keeps the count of how many trees you donated on your profile as a badge of honour. Maybe duolingo will allow us to donate 5 bucks or something to language education in 2nd and 3rd world countries or saving dying languages with like 200-1000 lingots. Whatever is affordable for them.
12) Please have some form of "Monthly freeze" even if it's a huge amount of lingots. I travel with no mobile data for festivals, it's impossible to buy a freeze everyday let alone study everyday.
13) People might not be reaching him because of the comment thread being too long but someone below suggested lingot bought extra study content like catchy native songs or reading material. It's cool. Credits to the dude below
BONUS: Yeah I know its ridiculous but what if we could buy a textbook helper for duolingo classes? Like an actual book that gives us what our course makes us practice in form of any grammar language book. I would save upto it even if it was 10k lingots, even 1m lingots. Give this nerd books, a book that is the badge of my hard work!
Karyairgil, you're brilliant! So much creativity! I hope the job you're working at is paying you well because you're worth it. Duolingo will be so much more fun if admin will implement some of your suggestions.
Some people may not like these ideas so it would be good to put something that can disable this for them
Sometimes I just want to posts huge lists of thenis Duo should do, like change the shop!
Certainly. Now they made skipping lessons on phone 5 lingots... Like wtf? thats a progress tool you are locking mate :((
I would absolutely LOVE to see all of your ideas come to Duo! My favorite ideas are the themes, avatars/rooms, merch, and "Forest" sort of thing. Themes and avatars would be unnecessary so no one would NEED them but some of us would probably enjoy having that sort of thing (especially children, I'd imagine!) The merch could even be really small things like stickers that are made in mass quantity so that they're cheaper to produce. Lastly, it would be awesome to use our lingots to donate toward a charity of our choice. There's a Chrome extension called "Tab for a Cause" that lets users gain hearts from every newly opened tab that can be donated to a multitude of charities. Perhaps Duo could find a way to partner with them or something else? Great ideas!
Thank you. I really want customisation items, laptop stickers and humanitarian act :D
I like the idea of avatars for cultural expression. not only that, it just a fun idea.
I would go to a few thousand lingots for a nature themed owl hole room or artists of countries stuff (painter/sculptor here)
342 lingots at this time, and they are just sitting waiting to be spent on streak freezes. Poor, lonely, lingots.
All of those ideas are awesome! I think the Duolingo staff HAVE to take even just a few ideas from that because that would make the lingots more enjoyable to own.
Maybe it's a matter of human resources? Some of them would need investment into design
Good old fashioned printed language help. I know its not the most environmentalist option but I like treating Duolingo as an actual language school
I think that's all incredible (especially #11), however holy crap #10 would be almost impossible
I don’t think it would be impossible, but it is unlikely since Duolingo would have to produce physical items to be given away for free. The cost (in lingots) would need to be enormous.
I am the nerd who got duolingo sticker custom printed to stick it on my laptop. I will pay with real money if necessary or one bajillion lingots
Absolutely genious. I was thinking about this for days now, Duolingo should make the website/app more attractive with things like that, it can get really boring sometimes.
It is attractive to those who already like studying. Rest needs a bit of glam and glitter
These all sound great! As for number 5, would that be a better double or nothing? The only suggestion that sounds sorta questionable is number 10 - pretty sure real money is better for that.
You are probably right on #10, I just printed out the sticker myself because of how much I wanted it. They could at least put some up near the duo merch store that has like 5 tshirts
These are all amazing ideas. The Duolingo team should definitely implement most, if not all of these, over time.
A Weekend Amulet protects your Streak for the weekend. I'm not sure how you earn the opportunity to buy one, though?
Weekend Amulets show up as specialty items in the shop every now and then, so just keep an eye out for them!
They do the same thing "streak protect" does but it's only for one weekend (ie they're gone on Monday) and they cost more. Cheaper to just keep "steak protect" enabled.
Excellent ideas. Duolingo is great for general language learning but to be able to use lingots to advance specific languages area would be good, not just dating and idioms
Progress locking might get some backlash. They locked the ability to skip classes on phone with 5 lingots and Im already frustrated. I checkpoint unlocked half of the tree and now ı need like 30 lesson a skill to maximize something I already know :((
These are excellent ideas! I especially like #6. But all of this is extremely great stuff. I was going to put in a few ideas of my own, but now, after this post, there aren't any left! :)
Yes PLEASE. I have over 191 lingots just sitting that I can't spend on anything
I like #3. I think it would be great if Duolingo did that... Also, #2 and #4 and #7. I pretty much agree with all of them!
4 is already possible tho, your friend just makes a comment (can be deleted afterwards) and then you transfer all the lingots to them
well if you use the mobile web browser and open the page in computer mode then yes
Great mind dude! keep up the excellent ideas! but I have an off-topic question: what's your mother-tongue? (I really don't mean to be rude but you speak English like a native and you're learning it!! I'm just very curious. pls help me out lol.
My native is Turkish but I started running Duo in english native because that branch has a better German course option. I know english like a native because of exposure. My friends and partners spoke english, favourite shows were in english, I forced myself to read books and write my journal in english and now I do english-turkish translations online to improve (and make a bit of money)
I'm really proud of you dude. being a native English speaker myself, I really couldn't tell you weren't a native. I mean I'm not sure but it seems like you use both British and American vocabulary (for instance I'd never use the word mate) and you also somehow sound "excited" but generally, you have no mistake writing at all. well done. I suggest you learn German the same way. happy learning.
I think we should just give all of our LINGNOTS to Karyairgil!!! Great ideas. Oh have another!!!
I'm humbled by your generosity and crushed under this sack of lingots I have just received. Now I really need this shop expansions ;D
I'm going to say no to the Premium Idea. I have premium; there's really no benefit to it. With it you get no ads; before I even accidentally paid for Premium, I hardly saw ads anyway. Much love to DL, but, speaking as a Premium member, there's almost no incentive at all to purchase it.
People are being so nice to me about this! I'm flattered and humbled in the same time. Thank you all so much!!
Wow! I like your ideas! They are fantastic! I hope Duolingo reads your post and takes your ideas into consideration.
Some incredible ideas have already been thrown around, but I'd also love to see more costumes for Duo, and also being able to buy them on the website too! Of course a little more effort might need to go into these than some of the other ideas (concepts, designing, actually drawing the sprite and all that) but I'd gladly spend all of my lingots on new adorable Duo costumes
NotThePink & KariAirGil, To heck with designing more clothes for the owl, (although I did recognize that Kari was using the "Caped Crusader" costume), I would like some for ME! I have suggested several times, but only to Moderators, when I could catch them, that it would not COST them money, but money could be made for Duolingo (to reward popular moderators or improve their response time on suggestions, or something else they might need), if they would make T-shirts available with some of the funny words Duo used on the original program (before Crown system).
Yes, they would have to be designed, but it could all be sub-contracted out or done by volunteers; clubs I have been in before sell shirts & make money on them. I'm thinking they could offer two or more designs, but at least one with a V-neck & one with a regular crew neck, with printed sayings on them like: ¡Mi oso se comió tu pingüino! & include the little green owl logo (for advertising), but make the shirts cost something like $15 + 3,000 lingots + a modest shipping cost, or free shipping for 1,000 more lingots.
The fun part would be when you wore the shirts, to have fellow Duo learners recognize you as a devotee! It could be a conversation starter in the language you're learning -- I know I'd buy a couple of them at least, if they were funny! Does anyone know how to get these ideas to the developers?
YES! I totally agree. I just can't understand that DL doesn't sell any merch. I've heard a lot of people scream for Duo plushes and I would also really like a shirt with some Chinese characters and a happy green owl.
With merch, DL can give users what they want, make money for better updates and advertise for free. I mean, that's pretty perfect. If someone sees a downside to this, please enlighten me.
I've actually done some more thinking on this here: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/32528714 I'm not saying it's all very well thought out yet, but even if it's all way less positive than what I'm sketching, it's still pretty darn positive.
Oh, and being an Product Design student, I would gladly spend my holiday designing a bunch of Duolingo clothes / other merch items.
geerten16, Thanks! I bookmarked that site for future reference (although their designs could be a lot more fun with better sentences & brighter graphics!) I haven't tried to buy anything through their site, so don't know how one pays for the items, yet, either. But I will check it out when it's not 1 a.m. -- my eyes are tired of doing "overtime" & ready "para dormir, para quiza soñar..."
I completely agree! If they gave us interesting things to buy with our lingots there would be a point to them.
I completely agree with this. Besides, they haven't changed a thing in so long in the shop so it would be good to have an update.
I think they should add a thing called "Break Days" and whenever you max out (get to level 5) on a circle thing you should get a free break day. Break days are kinda like streak freezes but it's free when you max out a topic. What do you guys think?
How do you get costumes? I have the iphone app and not sure how to find them.
maybe if you go the shop they will have costumes you can buy with lingots. I'm not 100% sure though, I don't have a phone.
They do. My profile picture is the most expensive one but tbh they are just useless other than duo popping up with it on during exercises when you get like 10 correct in a row.
Decoration I think and I mostly use PC, so I think they should add costumes for PC too.
It isn’t worth it. There are only two costumes and they are hardly worth buying. There was a limited-time dragon costume in the Year of The Dragon (Chinese New Year) once.
and also a really expensive freeze streak for people going on holiday or something.
that would be awesome because on weekends I am super busy so I cant go on Doulingo
I don't know what types of costumes they have on the app but it would be very motivational and make using duolingo more appealing if costumes could be bought even on the pc...or chrome, however a person uses duolingo. A wider selection would help if there isn't many. It would make it a lot more exciting!
There are four costumes: formal attire, dragon costume (I'm not sure if this is still available to buy, but I got it during the lunar new year), champagne tracksuit, and now also super duo. :) I think they're really cute, and I'd like to see them on the PC as well, and I'd love more!
Absolutely yes! I've put it out there before but I would love to be able to buy additional lessons for optional topics. Here are a few examples: Passé simple in French, slang expressions, language differences between countries and curse words and (might need an age filter on this but if you are old enough to be doing Duo you already know those words in your own language)
Why not having more skins for Duo or special skills that we can unlock with our lingots? Maybe new tools, new ways of learning words I don't know. Why not something that able us to change our user interface ? Why not a dark theme ? I don't think that actually lingots are really useful except to buy a strike freeze.
*Why not have
*something that enables us
Don't put spaces before question marks (or periods or exclamation marks).
Thanks for the correction. Yes it is streak freeze (don't know why I've written strike freeze ><')
I agree with karyairgil! I think this site could also get more users if we do this new things for the lingots, so it feels like you need to work more hard here so you can buy all this cool stuff.
Customizable owls, bonus stories, and bonus lessons like the flirting and idioms lessons
Damn! I was going to give you a lingot because I have 1980 of them and have already learned how to flirt in French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portugues & now the owl dresses better than I do!
i think there should be more optional levels you can take(flirting specific food, animals etc...) another good one is learning more about the culture of the country(ries) your language comes from
why does the website have lingots and the app doesn't? When I do it on the app I don't get lingots.:( Please donate so I can buy proverbs and idioms. Thank you!
I'm trying to guess what's going on there. The app has gems, which appear to correspond to lingots, 1 lingot - 10 or 20 gems, depending on which item is being purchased. For example, the league bonuses in the app are 100, 200, and 400, while on the web they're 5, 10, and 20 -- a 20 to 1 ratio. Some items in the store are only a 10 times ratio. It looks like there are some differences somewhere, since I have 1114 lingots (having only done one exercise on the web) but 23126 gems, a 20.7594 ratio. Somehow, I think the linkage between the two worlds is intended, but not yet complete.
Oh, and in answer to your question, you earn gems in the app with which you can buy proverbs and idioms, 1000 gems.
That's strange, my app has lingots not gems. That might be a version thing?
I have lingots on the app as well. And I got most of my lingots from the app, even without watching advertisements.
They are damn lazy. As a plus subscriber i just feel it is not worthed anymore. I'd rather go to memrise, always updating their platform regularly.
Jeez, my lingots is nearly 5 digits ! I don't know what i want to about it.
Of course i expect these lingots for open any extra courses maybe, not only for avatars.
I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one thinking this. lingots and gems seem pointless to have because there is nothing to spend them on. also why is the currency different in the app than on the website?
Es ist nicht genug im Laden. I would, personally, just love to see more small little lessons for each language to teach you a few new words and such.
Yes, I agree! Duolingo is an amazing app, that being said lingots give learners motivation to work toward their goals. This is something that I believe would make their app 10x better! Good luck on language learning friends! :)
I'd be happy to take spare lingots! Por favor (please in spanish)! I need lingots!
I agree! I bought everything in the shop but now the only thing I can buy again and again is "virtual money" maker!
You posted this as a top level comment, so it's unclear which comment you were replying to.
I've also been thinking that there should be more things that I want to spend my lingots on.
You are quite right, more things to purchase with Lingots would make it a little more interesting. SteVo1301
Yes, definitely. There are 3 costumes and the double wager thing, with the occasional weekend amulet, and... that's all. I'd be much more interested in paying lingots/gems to join classes, or get extra lessons, etc.
How about being able to purchase Mexican beaded bracelets, rings, Earrings, or pendants? and Novi Co is a site which sells authentic Goods and help these Crafters. Perhaps a Cooperative effort with them would benefit hem and Duolingo users in anbeing able to use lingots as partial payment for goods.
I have loads of lingots too and I think there should be loads more in the shop.
I agree, the app used to have a lot more to do with them but now they appear to have taken them away
Oh hell yeah! I got a bunch too but there's literally nothing else to send them on. First they should offer more lessons, maybe some skins or other digital cosmetics, and maybe even some merch. I would rock the heck out of a Duolingo hoodie with the Crown and some fags around it!
It would be great! You really dont need that many lingots before you can buy everything!
How did this get 415 up votes? This question gets asked often enough that these regularly get down voted below the -5 threshold. Another discussion is also getting an irregularly high number of votes.
Usagiboy7, PLEASE pass KaryAirgil's ideas in this thread up the chain of command -- the up-votes are because hundreds of us agree that we need some good stuff to get for our Lingots! I believe the interest in this topic is well worth Duolingo exploiting it with its marketing department -- there is a LOT of pent-up interest in having some FUN with LINGOTS.
I didn't even know where the "gear" location was, so the marketing department is missing opportunities for people around the world to wear Duo T-shirts -- it's like FREE ADVERTISING! I was excited to learn some T-shirts were available, but they need to make some of them more modern, & with some funny "Duo-ism" sentences, & brighter colors -- but don't let the owl vote on the color, or they'll all be GREEN, & a lot of people don't look good in GREEN! Many companies sell T-shirts for profit, & I would buy a couple of them myself, if Duo offered some pretty ones (with a "V" neck) at a "discount" price that is subsidized by huge amounts of Lingots. Something like a nice $20 T-shirt for $15 + 2,000 Lingots, perhaps. They could even have design contests for volunteers to do graphics, if someone could get this ball rolling!
Mods would be inundated if suggestions/requests went through us first. It would take us away from our official volunteer duties. So, it doesn't work like that on Duolingo, thankfully lol. Instead, staff visit the forums to take notes of people suggestions themselves. Nearly every feature on Duolingo today was inspired by suggestions people posted in the forums. So, they are indeed paying attention. Usually, there is a lag of several years between suggestion and implementation. Because of that, there is a widespread misbelief that staff never listens to community suggestions. I've been here 5.5 years and used to keep a running list of suggestions that had been implemented. I've misplaced it now. But, keeping track like that helped me realize that staff are paying attention. They just have a very long timeline. Which, makes sense. They test a lot of ideas, most of which fail and we never see them. The other ideas that pass initial testing then gets tested on a small pool of users. If it fails, it disappears. If it doesn't, it gets tested with a wider pool of users, etc. And, because the list is miles long, it takes forever to get through what's already been suggested previously.
As for using lingots as currency, that idea has come up in the past and there are significant shortcomings. The items in the gear store, last I checked, were not priced to make profit, but at cost. So, if a lot of people using Duolingo for free, earned lingots for free, then got money from Duolingo (in the form of merchandise), the company would go bankrupt. Anyhow, I've participated in several discussions on it and I'm worn out on it. So, I won't be replying to further replies here about lingots for merch. If you want to review previous discussions people have had about it, feel welcome to use the search bar in the forum. ^_^
Usagiboy7, Thanks for your timely reply. I don't expect another if you're worn out on this topic, :-) but just for the record, the people who are doing the merchandising for the T-shirts COULD make money on them at $15-$20; I've done it for softball teams, in small lots, with printed logos included. But if they hide them away where we can't even find them, having no references guiding us to them, how in the world do they sell ANY?! Meanwhile ...
You volunteer Mods probably get peppered with questions all the time because there is a necessary "firewall" between millions of users & the developers & creators, & the users want so much to share their ideas for helping to make Duolingo even better. (Having Lingots for incentives would definitely be better if there was anything worth spending them on besides streak freezes.) If "staff" reads some of the suggestions on this thread, they might get some good ideas to use, especially when so many seem excited about a topic. It's hard to get a bunch of people excited about ... studying!
I could use some new Duo stickers to utilize in iMessage, I think it would be fun to be able to purchase different sets in the shop :)
That’s a really cool idea, CalculusClub! And I think it would be cool to be able to make your own stickers!!
I love the idea on being able to spend lingots on super specialized vocabulary lessons based on individual interests that aren't necessarily relevant to everyone :)
I never gave anyone lingots but now that you're asking me not to, it just tempts me to do it lol.
You are so right, that I have no other alternative but to give you a lingot :-) Sorry buddy ...
yeah they should but IMO it's not a priority, they should rather fix the bugs on their website
btw if you don't know what to do with the lingots you can always give them to me
I have the opposite problem. I can't test out of skills that I already know well because it charges five lingots and... It adds up.
I definitely think they should add more to the shop too, because now, I don't even care about getting lingots anymore. And if I was you, I would just look for awesome discussions like this one, and give the people a lingot like I just did now.
Same! I have lingots like loads of them and I am wondering on what I should do with them.
Duolingo better listen to your ideas, Karyairgil, or I'm gunna find out who owns the site and go tell him your ideas in person. They are too good to be ignored here have a lingot :)
I agree, what is the point of being lingot heavy if you can't use them? I want an immediate do-over or a free pass when I make a mistake for my lingots. But I also love the suggestions from karyairgil. A donation would be best for me. Doesn't have to be a tree, free lessons for a class of kids who can't afford it otherwise?
I agree too! I wish there was more things in the shop. (Please donate to me, it you have too much. I could be used as a lingot trash can! :-p)
Any of those ideas would be great. I bought and continue buy everything, and still only manage to gain Lingots. I have 809, and will have many more buy tomorrow.
I really agree with you. It would be nice to have some more ways to spend your lingots. Especially if the things in the store are more fun.
Being able to use lingots only to buy things we can download for more practice such as colouring in sheets, weather charts, memory game cards etc
you should buy whatever you want! I hope you have a wonderful day and a great year!
Totally agree! I've seen a lot of complaining about this about this already. Some options could be stories or bonus lessons which you have to pay for with lingots. Also someone suggested chats with other users, this seems like a great idea to learn more! Furthermore Duo outfits and more customization options would be really cool, but if I could choose I'd definitely go for more language content like stories and bonus lessons.
Oh defiantly, the shop is so boring right now the only thing I will get in the shop is the "seven day streak" And also take out "flirting." I think you should give them to other people that don't have as many like me. And no I am not trying to tell you to give me any lingots.
I think for every lingot DL should pay you 1 Euro ;) now that makes it more interesting haha
I would like to see a 1000000 lingot item where you can have plastic surgery to resemble the likeness of everyone's favorite mascot, Duo :)
MuchLoveToDuo

Just buy streak freezes, that's all lingots are useful for in your language (if you do a core language, they have bonus skills you can get for lingots)
I would rather be able to earn something by exceeding my goal. For x lessons (or x times my goal), for example, I should be able to get a streak freeze for y days. Also, when I am flagged for an error but got the answer right, I should get some kind of credit, either monetary units or extra hearts.
I cant use streak freezes because its only for one day and I am too busy on Saturdays and sundays for duolingo
In my opinion, streak freezes should only be used for days you literally can't find time for. I'm not here to learn just so I can forget it with a streak freeze.
