Is there a way to disable leagues without losing my friends?

I find leagues pretty demotivating, but I don't want to make my profile private to get rid of it as I like being connected to my friends. Is there any way to get rid of leagues without losing my Duolingo connection to the two close friends I added a few months ago?

You could blend the League panel out (remove the html / css code) at the top right corner as explained by me in this thread: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/32301709

If you want to see your friends you follow and their weekly XP (old web leadership board) you need to keep your profile public in the privacy settings.

What's weird is just the other day the section where my "friends" are would also show my followers. So they were both in the same place (on my profile page). Since the introduction of the Leaderboards, the people I follow are still viewable, but I can't see my followers anymore.

In the Troubleshooting forum, another user made a topic about it.

I could see her followers when I went to her page, but she couldn't see her own. It's the same for me. Same for everyone, I assume. It's a strange thing to have this one feature viewable by others except the very person who is being followed.

Update May 29th 2019: They just brought back the followers to the profile again so that they are no longer hidden from the followee.

Other than leagues, what good are friends? You can't contact them. After you collect the badge, then what? I will tell you. Absolutely nothing.

I've been wondering the same.

Unfortunately not... Duolingo makes an ''all for one'' and ''one for all'' thing. Leaderboard with friends or nobody without the leaderboards. No inbetween as of now. However, with all this commotion, they might make it to where you can exit the leaderboards without losing your friends. For now, we just have to wait. : (

Hi Windle2,

Could you relocate this discussion in the “Troubleshooting" forum? Which is the place meant for such discussion ("How Duo works?", "What is/How works this or that feature/thing?", etc.). Thx!

To relocate it (*), edit your original post then select said forum in the drop-down menu on top-left of the edition area (see here for details).

(*) /!\ please, don’t create a new discussion /!\

Have a look to this short guide to help you knowing where to post your (future) discussions on Duolingo’s forums.

AFAIK, and as Thomas.Heiss explained, there is unfortunately no way to do that with the settings Duo is offering.

I love the leagues though, it's so much fun, at least in the bronze league where not everyone is XP grinding.

You can install an older version in your mobile. There are some sites that can offer you in Android Example: https://duolingo.en.uptodown.com/android/old

I found an old one of the end of 2018. I deinstalled the newest one first. The old version is an apk file. Download it and install it. Then go to Google Play Store. Search for Duolingo. Don't update it. Tick off the box of automatic update in the right corner of the window. So you can go backwards. You can find your friends from your club. But you cannot write to them. The older versions are not supported from Duolingo anymore. Maybe you have exchanged or communicate with some email or Whatsapp, or whatever, Slack, Discord etc.

This is a tip to avoid leaderboards which I really don't like as I cannot communicate with any peer to learn together and challenge each other. It is just a list, whatever it is.
