E (ed before words that begin with e-) is a copulative conjunction (aka cumulative conjunction), whose purpose is to bind two nouns (il libro e la penna), or two verbs (io entro ed esco), or two adjectives (la valigia è grande e pesante) , two indipendent clauses (io vado al lavoro e torno questa sera), etc.

Ma, però and bensì are adversative conjunctions, whose purpose is to express contrast between words or clauses.
Ma is the most common of the three, and can be used for general purposes:

  • Il film è famoso ma brutto.

  • Il ragazzo legge velocemente ma distrattamente.

  • Oggi io non posso venire ma posso venire domani.

Però is similar; it is commonly used not to repeat ma too closely:

  • Il vestito è bello ma è un po' caro, (ma →) però lo compro ugualmente.

Bensì is more specific, and sounds more polished or literary than ma; it is more often used after a negative clause:

  • La mia automobile non è rossa ma / bensì blu.

If you're in the Italian forum, it's about the Italian language.

It is Italian, I am on the conjunction section and I am not sure when I use Ma or Bensi in a sentence or when to use E or Ed
