XP needed for next level

Yet another unwanted and unhelpful change from Duo!

It used to be that if I went to my profile, I could see not only how many XP I had for each language, but also how many I needed to move up to the next level for each. Now this second feature is gone, and I can only see the totals that I have, not what I need.

Seriously, why do the team at Duo keep on making changes that no-one asked for, and no-one likes??!!

Does anyone have any idea why duo is taking away the greatest features and replacing them with substandard ones? I really like this feature too, and I am going to hate it if they take it away

Not only the levels are removed (which makes no sense whatsoever) they also removed friends leaderboards... Which was the only leaderboard I cared about.

So that means in the 2019 so far:

  • Layout has changed to something that looks disgusting.

  • Clubs have been killed and replaced by leaderboards nobody wanted.

  • Practice now gives xp to skills so skill leveling is dead.

  • lingots for every lesson you do making all previous lingots worthless

  • Removing of the friends leaderboard today

  • removing the levels of a language.

The problem is that so far I have not found an alternative for duolingo that is at the same level or better but I really don´t like the fact that they seem to be tanking their own app under the guise of making it "better".

  1. I personally love the new layout, it looks way better and much more modern in my opinion.

  2. I actually barely used clubs, they never motivated me. On the other hand, Leagues have motivated me to practice more Spanish than ever before over the past few months.

  3. Global practice is probably my favorite new update. It makes the practice button worthwhile again, like it was in the pre-crown days.

  4. Yeah, I'm getting soo many Lingots now xD Maybe the extra lingots means Duolingo is considering adding more to the Shop?

  5. The Friends leaderboard is still around. You just have to scroll down the Learn page to see it.

  6. Levels really weren't that useful anymore, they were highly inaccurate (I am 1/4 through the tree, yet Duo says I am on Level 22/25).

  7. Don't forget tree updates like CEFR compatibility!

See, not everyone thinks Duolingo is dying :) I personally believe Duolingo is better this year than ever before. I hope you grow to like the new changes more. Think about things from the bright side.

Cheers!

1 and 2 are indeed highly subjective.

3 is just objectively bad. It takes away practice moments and repitition.

  1. The friends leaderboard used to be at learn. They moved it to your profile and since yesterday it is gone there too.

  2. They weren´t useful but they were also not working against anybody. I am 1/3 in my tree and am level 24 so that seems pretty similar.

  3. CEFR?

I don´t think it is dying. I just think it is declining in quality.

I agree, 1 and 2 are subjective. 3 doesn't actually remove that much repetition, and ultimately, if anything, I have done more repetition with Global Practice than I have done in the past. Previously, once I got to a certain point, I just tested out.

  1. The friends leaderboard moved to your profile, but then yesterday it moved back to the Learn page (At least for me). Maybe it will appear again for you soon.
  2. Yeah, true.
  3. The Duolingo tree is now in line with official CEFR language standards, and is specifically aligned with the A2 level as of this year. I would advise looking up CEFR, or check out Duolingo's latest blog post.

Happy Language Learning! :D

I don't get what you mean by those two points. Could you clarify them?

It used to be that I used the practice button until I was satisfied with my knowledge. When that was the case I started practising the skills in my tree again and level them up 1 crown level. This way I got familiar with them and then did some spaced out repetition.

Lingots are now given as if they are grains of sand. I got in the last week more lingots than in the previous 6 months before that.

Okay, but what if you're not good enough to get into the hall of fame?

Exactly, I find it super motivating to see I only have a few xp to move to the next level... come on Duo also whilst you're at it bring back making skills gold and ditch the crowns!

Why did you delete the levels. I found them helpful and they gave me something to shoot for. Dumb!
