All gold german tree!
1299
Done it!
My German tree is all gold!
620 days, 95000 XP, 607 Crowns
I admit I tested out of a couple of the very early lessons (there is only so much bread and water i can cope with) but other than that i have done the lot.
I can listen to simple stories now and I forget that I am listening in German, I am just following the stories. I can read to a basic degree. My mental processing to speak German in real-time is lacking, but that will come.
thank you Duo.
I will do the new tree when it appear for me, and complete the reverse tree.

I usually got each dot in a block (separated by the test out markers) to crown level 3, then i would do each to level 4, then go back again to get them all to 5.
Then i would move onto the next 'block'
I would periodically do a few practice lessons from each gold dot in turn (making a note of how far i got). revision, if you will.
I also did a few lessons from memrise and Babbel a week.
I use the fabulous podcasts from DW, available online
Also i listen to the even more fabulous short stories by Andre Klein (cafe in Berlin is the first one ), available on google play.
in the early days i would watch a great many you tube videos like German with Jenny, and German with Anja, and the guy with the red bow tie, i forget his name.
I do Duolingo every day, but i do the above periodically to no set timetable.
seems like a lot now i have written it down...
Thank you for the details, they are very helpful and I will try some of them. I agree that DW has fabulous resources to learn German!
I like your idea of doing revisions on golden skills, because spaced repetition shouldn't stop once a dot is yellow. Duome has a tool for this, on https://duome.eu/Lobsterism/progress you can sort by date and it will tell you the last time you practiced a skill, but I fear it is redundant with your note taking.
Congratulations again, you are motivated and persistent, I am sure that you will continue to learn beyond Duolingo :). Viel Erfolg!

Gut gemacht!
Is there a new German tree coming up? I haven't seen any information about that.

It is being re-done in line with the A1 and A2 stuff, you can see it if you open an incognito window (or private one, whatever), go to the duo site start a german course and you will see it.
