Arabic Word of the Day 44#
*Aloha! Today we're going to change focus away from the dull of grammatical rules! [cheer] So we'll look at... [looking through the Spanish tree]... Emotions! [with emoticons!] :D
*سعيد = "Sa3eed" = Happy!＾▽＾ - Also a common Arabic boy name
*حزين = "H^azeen" = Sad :'( - Not an Arabic name! XD ... as far as I know anyways ;p
*متحمس = "Mutah^amis" = Excited ᗒᗨᗕ - In the English dictionary it says the definition of "excited" is "Very enthusiastic and eager" [flipping to definition of "eager"] "Very excited for something"... -_-
*قلق = "Q^aliq^" = Worried (⊙△⊙✿)
*مكتئب = "Mukta'ib" = Depressed :'(((((( - Cheer up pigeon!
*حائر = "H^aa'ir" = Confused ¯_(ツ)_/¯ - There's a few other words for this, but imo this is the most common one used
*غاضب = "Ghaad^ib" = Angry!! 凸(>皿<)凸 - Hehehe mind me! ;p
*مندهش = "Mundahish" = Surprised (☼Д☼) - Don't forget "sh" at the end
*مصدوم = "Mas^doom" = Shocked O-O
*متعب = "Mut3ab" = Tired ￣0￣

*محرج = "Muh^raj" = Embarrassed ー_ー﹡

*Here's your list! Don't forget that if the person you're describing is a lady, you must add the sound a at the end of the words listed above, except for the nouns (they have "general" written next to them btw)
*Ok that's it for today! I hope you enjoyed the lesson! ;D
*Thanks for Reading! Any Qs, Proof - Reading, Suggestions, Improvements, please comment below and I'll be glad to ... do wtv it is! ;D Have a Nice Day guys! B)
;p lol he's going to come here so salty and say "I was busy this week!" XD JK Andres! lol I should add salty to the list, shouldn't I? then I'd put Andres' profile pic as the emoji XD Joking Andres, Joking! ;p
I know sousou, I didn’t even sign up for the competition, but it looks like I am forcefully thrown in.
Well... I spent 8 hours in a car today. Hopefully tomorrow I can beat you all! LOL
Hehehe didn't I say he was going to mention something like that? XD Lol!!
نبية / رسولة = Rasoola / Nabiya - Both mean Prophetess, though they're not used because all prophets are men. Thx Andres I learnt a new word in English "Prophetess", I've never heard of it... Though I think future-teller makes more sense ;p
Sleep is the best way to solve this problem :D luckily it's easy, just come to my Computing class or possibly my English one if people aren't committing suicide to loudly XD Using their ties lol
Ikr, but he's been doing his lessons? Weird. Maybe... Just maybe... He decided to take responsibility for his education, and leave the forum... I should do that but hey! That's just not me! ;p
;p I won't lol ... except on some days I'll post late because I have revision to do... which I should be doing right now... lol Mathswatch is open on my other tab but I just got to this depressing quadratic equation and I've given up to your comments XD
(correct me if I wrote this wrong) لا حاجة للحسد لي
I'm going back to school on Monday and I've got to do double French and double PE. It's gonna be torture. :(
لا تحسدني (Don't envy me) is better [yours has a bit if a grammatical error].
Ok double French isn't amazing (no offence French ppl but English schools make you hate French)... But double PE! Weirdo! I love PE! I'd LOVE to swap with you!! Yeah you can have my double Computer Science lesson on Monday! :D I have a test on that day... O-O oops I still haven't revised yet... [gulp]
How do you like double PE??? She makes us run a 400m track TWICE in the cold. You don't understand that torture. No one can. :....( That's meant to be me crying.
Good luck with that Computer Science test next Monday. What do u even learn in Computer Science.
I don't ever have double PE it's not fair! Like when I was in yr 7 + 8 I NEVER got double, in fact, we only have a PE lesson twice a week. the sec we left yr 8, the new y8s got 3 lessons a week WHY?!
PE is mostly fun, today's lesson was an exception cus we were doing shotput which is the most BORING thing ever! Cold? umm well summer is FINALLY coming, though it is still raining every two days... Ok running isn't my favourite bit [I like basketball and all the ball games basically] but 400m twice is 800m, we always do 7 and a half laps around a 200m track aka: 1500m, aka: 1.5km and on Ramadan last year and the year before that soo... You can't complain!
:'(( I'm going to FLop so BAD! [still not revising] ... We learn loads of crap, the worst of which is programming [ugh]... So we do Algorithms, Programming, Data Representation, Computer Systems Computer Networks, Fundamentals of Cyber Security and Ethical, Legal and Environmental Impacts of Digital Technology on Wider Society, including Issues of Privacy.
Woah.... I'm speechless. How do you know all that stuff for just one subject. You're gonna ace that test with knowledge like that. :)
I don't think you get the point you see... Knowing the titles of the topics on an exam is gonna get me no marks!!! The whole point is, I DON'T KNOW ANY OF IT! ... Well, I know a bit... A tincy wincy % of it... ー_ー﹡I'm gonna fAiL!!! Maybe if I get moved down to Info Tech then it'll be easy... At least there's an advantage :3
That makes u smarter than me. At least you pay attention to what you're doing in class instead of thinking about what to buy after school.
One question tho. How many tests have u got left?
Tutu Ruwayda! I expected more from you [turning brightness low and sleeping behind computer screen] ;p
Hmm well I'm not in yr11 yet [clue] so I'm not doing my real GCSEs but I've got loads of Topic Tests and Mocks [aka past GCSEs]... I have loads of Mocks coming in 2 weeks times and they're gonna last for two weeks. My computer sci test is a topic test, but I also have two Mocks in two weeks time, I've got an English Mock [I'm going to Fail that 100%], 3 Maths Mocks, a Chemistry + Biology + Physics Mock [all three in one giant paper so that half way through you'll find Chemistry in Biology so you get confused], I also have a Geography one... Umm I think that's it :o That's a lot of crap to revise for and I can't :(
Edit: Oh and probably 4 Spanish Mocks
But in the real GCSE you get way more papers!
That's cus there's one for listening, reading, writing and speaking [the speaking isn't on paper, you have to speak into a recording thingy majigi]. Imo listening is the hardest! Then Speaking, then Writing then Reading... The real problem is, Listening is always grouped with reading, so the sec listening finishes, you get a reading paper and you're literally worn out! @_@
Actually this is how many papers we get: - 4 English X_X (2 Language + 2 literature) - 3 Maths - 3 Geography - 2 Computer Science - 6 Triple Science [2 Chemistry, 2 Biology, 2 Physics] - 4 Spanish
Well it varies with others, because I picked geography, Triple science and Computer science, other subjects have their own amounts, Combined Science only get three papers but hey! We get better certificates and better jobs so... Why not!
Anyways so yeah, it's a way of pure torture. Each test is obviously different to the other, the worst is when they put three completely different subjects on the same day so you have to remember so much!
But the thing that annoys me most is... the fact my sis just did her last English paper today and is NEVER going to do English EVER again cus after secondary you choose all your subjects :((( I'm STUCK still!
Yeah they all have the same %contribution towards your final grade. You have grade boundaries, and they give you a grade for each test and give an average I guess.
So basically there's a number of topics in each subject. So each paper will cover a number of topics. So with Biology for example, they'll have topics like cells, health and disease and genetics [there's like 5 or 6 topics on 1 paper] on paper 1 and on the second paper they'll have photosynthesis, human body and adaptations [and there's 4 or 5 on this one]. SO they test them separately so that they can ask you enough qs and not have you sitting 1 exam for almost 4h [which would be terrible - the longest exam is Art which is 10h... 5h on one day, and another 5h the next day wooh! so glad I didn't pick art!] So that literally goes with every subject [with maths they have loads of topics so 3 papers] but with geography, 2 papers are the topics and one is field work Qs [you do field work in your 2nd yr and then in the exam they assess you on that field work, apparently it's the worst paper and my sis said that she's relying on her paper 1 +2 marks to pull her paper 3 marks up lol.
Yeah, the exam boards put on the dates, but often you get 2 or 3 exams on one day because there's a deadline for exams to completely end. For example, if I had a geography exam on Tuesday morning, but my Computer Science exam was on morning too, they'd have to push it to before lunch or in the afternoon so I'd have two exams. They have to insure everyone in England does the same exam at the same time, without missing another exam. It's really complicated, but they manage it by sticking all your exams next to each other!
Ahh Lucky! I've changed my mind the worst fact is: the fact the grade boundaries change depending on how stupid or clever your year group is! So say you do a Maths exam, the exam boards check everyone in the country's scores for Maths. Say you did well but the whole of England did well in average, the grade boundaries will go higher! Therefore you'll end up with a low grade. So if some stupid guy got low on a Maths test, but they yr before you, and that yr group in the whole of England did rubbish on the exam, then the grade boundaries will go lower and that stupid guy gets a higher grade than you even though you got wayyy higher than him! So you have to basically hope your year group is stupid! I have a bad feeling here... :'(
That's not true. Whenever they make a new spec it starts off as easy, and they make the Qs harder and harder until they reach a certain year when the papers are at a good stage of difficulty [aka: HARD]. The real problem is, at the moment, for computer science they are giving away easy marks as the new spec only started last year [last year's qs were mostly easy and they had extremely LOW grade boundaries!]. So at the moment, for a Q that deserves 2 marks, they are getting 4 marks [0.0] but my teacher said by the time we are doing the real thing, something deserving 2 marks will award you 2 marks! XO WHYYY couldn't I be born earlier?!!
disgusted = مشمئزّ = mushma'iz' (don't know how to write it LOL)
disgusting = مثير للاشمئزاز = mouthiron lilishmi'zaaz (basically we add "i" (kasra) in the end of the second word, but we don't when it is the last word, cause we always end with a silent letter)
I'm horrible at spellings XD and this auto-corrector isn't helping! it keeps changing to the wrong spelling [sigh]
Is there anywhere where you have all of these posts collected? I just discovered them, and I'd love to go through them in order.
I'm so happy the Arabic course is on the road to completion! Been eagerly awaiting it for a long time. :-)
