Skills refuse to strengthen despite multiple attempts!

My Strength is at 96% ( I have 132 skills@100%, and 24 skills@75%.

It has become impossible to strengthen these 24 skills to 100%!

Some of these skills were completed a few months ago, some were tested out recently. Some are from the old tree others are entirely new.

I have tried practicing them multiple times repeatedly, how many more times I might need to go I don’t know. I have tried; Practicing them sequentially. Practicing them in backwards order. Practicing them by date. Randomly practicing them out of sequence. Using timed practice. Logging out and then practicing one again, no change. And, practicing them over and over, over many days.

I have been trying for several weeks.

It won’t allow me to redo the skills, only to practice them!

These 24 skills will not strengthen to 100%!

I had others at 75% but all of those I have been able to strengthen to 100%, they were mostly older skills or skills with no origination date.

I am on a web browser (Chrome).

Does anyone know any trick or cheat to get these to 100%?

Do I have to practice a set amount of times for these specific skills to turn to 100%?

Thanks in advance.

I am so glad you asked this question. I have seven skills that are golden and have been so for some time. Duome notes that 48/48 sentences have been completed, or whatever number takes it to completion. I have also tried practicing in these skills to bring them to 100%, just to change the number. They are actually 100% but Duo does not recognize that. Anybody have any ideas to prompt Duo to recognize this problem? And better yet, to solve it.
Here's a lingot for bringin the issue to the group.

This is a very old problem. I have an account that was originally on French Tree V2, then got upgraded to V3 then to V5 (aka tree12), that account has LOADS of skills that won't go to 100%. I have another acocunt that was originally on V4 (tree8) that got upgraded to V5 (tree12) which has a few skills that won't go to 100%. Yet another account that started with V5 has (so far) no broken skills (though I'm far from having completed the tree with that account).

The most frustrating thing about this is that the staff don't seem to care at all. At some point there'll be yet another version of the tree and ALL my accounts will likely start to have more broken skills and the only solution will be to register YET ANOTHER account and start from scratch all over again.

I wonder if any of the other courses are affected of if it is only the French course that is broken?

  • 1) My Portuguese from English course (EN->PT) is highly affected for several skills (0% strength); it was updated...but this non-strengthening phenomen is something very new to me.

2) I expect that several skills in the German from Portuguese course might also be affected (I have to find which and how many);

3) I have to first try how the English from Portuguese (CEFR) tree behaves; I have started it from scratch on the new tree without any migration.

No, it surely does not only affect French, Spanish or new CEFR trees.

The EN->PT tree is not based on any CEFR updates.

I have the same issue. I think another user Thomas.Heiss (may be spelling his name wrong), wrote something on this issue as well. I wish I could find it as he did a most elegant post describing the issue.

I think this issue also is (perhaps?) correlated to the word strength issues.

Huge thread (352 comments):

My posted comment for their developers in the Duolingo HQ or any other userscript programmers:$comment_id=32321578

I noticed that the developers did not even bother to respond to your comment there! It leads me to believe that they are either incompetent or that they are deliberately sabotaging their entire site!

That they took away our ability to redo a lesson was an astounding loss.

Why they are unwilling to allow us to even reset specific skills is confounding to me. If I was able to do that then all of my skills would be at 100% strength!

I don't know if it is related. I thought the non-functionality was of the word strength was done on purpose when they introduced the dictionary. I am assuming that the reporting and tracking of what words you are exposed to, is to be done away with in a future update. I also expect the word list to disappear at that time too.

I agree, "Duolingo skill strength viewer" is broken for several skills and gives me exactly 0% and many DEAD (0.0.... strength) words.

I had described how it was working (better for me) in 2016-2018 here:

Any recent backend / practice changes must have broken the internal "Vocabulary overview API" even more.
