Add Owl Plushies to the Gear Website?
I recently discovered that Duolingo had their own merch website. I have seen people on YouTube with Duolingo shirts, and now I know where they come from! I realized that there was something missing from this website... I think it would be really cool if users were able to purchase Duolingo Owl plushies on the Gear website. https://gear.duolingo.com
I know Duolingo saves them for special occasions, or for people who really deserve one for their contributions, but it would be awesome if the public could purchase these. People would most defenitly buy them, as I have seen lots of users asking for them in the forums and on Twitter. They would also be highly profitable because of the demand for them.
It would also encourage users to do their daily lesson, as it would act as a subtle reminder. It would sort of be like an IRL Duolingo Push! Seeing Duo every time I get on my computer would definitely make me do my lesson!
Anyways, just an idea. Duolingo should seriously consider it though. You don't need a plushie to learn a language, but I would like to support the website in other ways.
Happy learning!! :D
Duo is one of the cutest online characters in my opinion, but he is only online. Unfortunately, Duolingo Push was not real.
That would be such a good gift for language lovers, or like, you could create an account for the reciever, and give them the usermane and password.
I NEED A PLUSH REEEEEEE
Can you imagine how cute they will be if they have the scarf of the language you are learning around them?
I want them to make those! It is possible for me to make plushies. Sewing isn't hard at all.
I've started on the sewing project! I'm finding the right colored fabric and making patterns. After that just sew it and BAM you're done!
What a cute idea! It would make a good gift to someone when they're studying a particular language.
I can sew different themes like Birthday party one, Language Graduation, and just the original. :D
Be aware if you make things with Duolingo's name on it, you should look into their trademarks.
Could I please have an Etsy store link if you've made one?
I am a stuffie enthusiast tightens imaginary tie and I need one for my.. um... collection! They'll offer big turnaround someday... assuming my children won't love them as much as I do.
Stuffies, plushies, stuffed animals... I say stuffies because I think it's more fair to the non-plush and non-animal varieties of stuffed objects-- a marshmallow is not an animal. tightens imaginary tie again Just kidding, it's not that moral, I just like stuffies more as a word. It's cute and less of a mouthful than "stuffed animal."
I ONLY want one if I can get a little Spanish scarf on him!
That would be so cute. And with the scarves? Ahhh!! I'm fangirling over Duolingo!
I once saw a suggestion (since many people with thousands of useless lingots are genuinely prepared to use them for anything) for a virtual lingot container shaped like a rubbish bin and a champagne tracksuit wearing a champagne tracksuit.
I bought all the suits (even the new ugly one). I didn't know the red one was a champagne track suit.
I actually still have my clothing options on my recently re-downloaded mobile app. It doesn't have the champagne tracksuit, but I do have a golden one, which, even though I can't adjust it on the PC, still shows up there.
Just checked, all three outfits still there for me, at least on mobile. I also use android, so it might have something to do with that.
It would be cool if when you complete a language tree and get your online golden duolingo trophy you could also apply for a golden duolingo plushie.
Or like a build-a-bear inner microphone built in saying something like "Merci" or "je t'aime" or whatever for whatever language, corresponding to the flag.
Like if you hug it hard enough it'll say "Thanks for the hug! I love you too!" in whatever language.
Well the memes destroy the purpose.
Like what I mean is that they could be used for wrongs...
Twin Towers with duolingo....
Yes! What they should do is require you to also pay 250 lingots (in addition to the money cost of the owl) so that the plushies can be a bit exclusive. That will give people a nice physical token of achievement!
I like the sound of an exclusive item! (It will take me a while to get it though... )
It would be nice if Duolingo sold plush owls! I can imaging seeing one in every language classroom! :D
I would definitely buy a Duo plushie, if it is made available in Australia! I think it would also be cool if we could also choose a Duo with an embroidered flag on its chest of the available languages on Duolingo.
Totally here for it. It will be like an invitation for any friends who see it as well! So you will also expand the knowledge of Duolingo as well as being reminded of your lessons!
If you go to a job fair w/ Duolingo on local campuses, they give them out. I have like 3. They (try to) recruit from mainly large state universities with good CS depts and top universities (I believe).
Oh, I hope they sometime go to the Universities of Massachusetts. We love our cultural diversity here :)
I really like that idea it would be so good to have them (I really like soft and cuddly things).
Do you really need a toy to learn a language with? The manufacture of plush toys uses polyester - a non renewable petroleum based fibre which takes more than 200 years to decompose. Do yourself and the world a favour by cutting down on plastic waste.
There's actually ways to produce toys that are more sustainable. :) But I know what you mean, and reduce is the first one, anyways, right? But environmental sustainability is another beast, we were just discussing a Duo plush.
Do we need a cuddly owl? No. However, with that logic, why on earth does Duolingo need to sell other physical merchandise, such as the shirts? Last year they also offered Duolingo beer (Brewolingo), although that was an April Fools joke.
Also, why do we NEED Duolingo in the first place? If we all just stay in our respective countries... Or better yet, have one common language.
That's true but everything down to the shirt you are wearing and the screen you are watching right now has a carbon foot print. If you drive an electric car that needs to be produced. And if the manufacturer of the car may or may not have their employees wear a uniform with buttons. BOOM carbon foot print there with just manufacturing the darn thing. I am just warming up. THEN you have to charge that car. While I am not going to get into the fact that I could completely DESTROY that for you with a long list of how bad of a carbon foot print it takes to even manufacture that charging station I will how ever tell you this.... that charging station has to be put somewhere right? "Right." you may be telling your screen as you read off this comment. So what better place to put it where there is open land. Anyone with half a brain is going to tell you that some poor little animal depends on some I don't know grass in that open field so it can you know kind of SURVIVE. If you build a electric car charging station on that poor little animal's LITERAL FOOD SUPPLY that is more destructive and mean to the environment then producing a little plush owl (which I am TOTALLY for by the way). This is so you can charge your car that is supposed to "help the environment". DO YOU FEEL THE SARCASM HERE CAUSE I AM LAYING IT ON PRETTY THICK HERE! So for recap we have learned today that 1) DO NOT talk about carbon foot prints or harming the environment on a public chat room (I mean come on people are bound to talk it up) and 2) You cannot stop the fact that everything has a carbon foot print and finally 3) You cannot tell a kid like me (YES I AM A CHILD YOU JUST GOT REKT BY A LITTLE GIRL! LADIES AND GENTLEMEN THAT IS SPELLED R-E-K-T... REKT! DO NOT I REPEAT NOT MESS WITH ME) that you would rather comment on this post instead of doing something that might put your smarts to use. But really no joke you seem like a really smart person. I would be lying if I said I didn't have anything else to say on this topic but I really want to go back to my day and keep learning German. Thank you for reading this comment and have a good day!
They should make Duo plushies that you can customize with the languages you are trying to learn, like disney does with its epcot ears.
Not sure whether everyone can sew their own Duo plushies, but recently I have custom printed a coffee mug with Duo's photo on it. It was for a friend and she loved it! Just go to a store that prints images on coffee mugs, be creative and enjoy your Duo merchandise.
P.S. If Duolingo is really hearing us, we need Duo plushies. I want to collect a few for me and my friends in the Duoverse.
It would be awesome if the plushies were dressed up in an outfit from the country where the language is spoken!! Also, I agree with Ntate Narin! Scarfs would be cute!
you like fish? me to. I like sword fish a lot. They are so cool. In portuguese, fish is peixe. so it would be me Eu gosta de pexie.
Duolingo is meant for learning, not merch. They want to do that for everyone.
But I would consider the idea. It seems good, business-wise.
Anyone who has seen the movie with “Chucky” the Satanically possessed doll knows there are a lot of hidden dangers with this idea. Just a friendly warning.
Plushies are a terrible idea. They're made of plastic fibres that shed and are bad for the environment. At least with clothing it's wearable and can be natural fibres.
I love the environment, and I want to work in conservation, so I do understand where you are coming from. But I dare to say this is off topic; there are many things that actually pollute the environment way more. Do you have a plastic free household? Do you ride your bike to school or work to reduce carbon emissions? I could go on. Besides, there are actually ways of making stuffed animals that are indeed sustainable!
Yes, it's kind of a matter of trade-off. Honestly, these people are all on their phones right now, doesn't THAT have a carbon footprint?
Wouldn't there cuteness cancel out the bad effects on the environment? Its a symbol of a movement that unifies people by allowing one to speak another's native tongue, and from a capitalist prospective; Duo the Owl is very popular, especially among the meme-would, and would bring in loads of cash! I see no reason why not, although you do present a good point!
"Wouldn't their cuteness cancel out the bad effects on the environment?"
Mood. Also, like others have said, you can easily make sturdy, sustainable plushies, they'd just be more expensive.
