Level after finishing Czech course?

Has anyone finished the Czech course already? What is the approximate level of someone who completed all level 0 lessons? A2-A1? I'm trying to estimate how far I can get by just finishing the Duolingo course in a given amount of time.

You might need a few diagrams:

  • The course covers about 1,200 dictionary entries. (Do not confuse that with the Duolingo "word" count. That is a nearly meaningless statistic.)
  • CEFR A1 is also approximately 1,200 dictionary entries
  • CEFR A2 adds another 1,200 entries for a 2,400 total.
  • The distribution of the 1,200 entries included in the course is about 700 A1, 900 (total) A1+A2, and the rest B1+.

Grammar is approximately A2, with some features beyond that.

How much you get out of it depends on how much you put into it.

If you are just doing a single crown pass through the whole thing with no other input from elsewhere and with minimal practice, I would say you will just be confused.

IME for an English speaking native with no fluency in another Slavic language, nothing in your visible list of languages will inherently strain your grammar learning as much as Czech, and I do see the Russian in there. (The Czech "system" of clitic words adds a layer of fun beyond Russian.)

On top of all this, the Czech course is the first iteration. We hope to do better in Version 2.

Good luck!

I hear Czech every day at work, and now I recognize about one word out of every few sentences—ano, neni, to je—which is pretty exciting!
