Earlier on in my Italian (from English) lessons, I had to say a phrase. I hit record, forgot what I was supposed to say, then hit the button to have it repeated to me again. As every word I was supposed to say lit up in green, I realized that the voice on duolingo was caught on my recording and the correct chime went off. Recently, I was doing a prep lesson and I had to speak the correct pronunciation for "Vedo l'ape sull'uomo." Each time I said it, I repeated it in my recorder exactly as it was spoken to me. I got all 3 chances wrong. When it popped up again later on in the lessons, this time I decided to hit record and then press the button where duolingo speaks it. All 3 times, it said the female voice for duolingo was wrong as well. I did take screenshots of this for peace of mind. Im not sure how I can learn to say it correctly when its showing that even the female voice for duolingo is saying it incorrectly. Its also happened on another phrase as well but I did not screenshot that one. Has this happened to anyone else, and any advice?
Hi there. While rare, some of Duolingo's speaking exercises are indeed borked.
You should report them at the troubleshooting forum so Duolingo Team can fix them and lessen the frustration for the users. We need input such as yours to make Duolingo better and better everyday.
Also, keep in mind that voice detection is not 100% reliable. This is a technical limitation faced by many apps, not just Duolingo alone.
Thank you for your input. I definitely have to agree with you there. I am using 3 different sources, Duolingo, Memrise, and also an Audible book I had purchased through amazon and I find I do have different issues with all of them. Its like English in some ways. Not everyone says words the exact same way so when one pronounces a word one way, someone may have an accent or a different way of saying it which one may not agree with. Example, in my household we tend to argue alot over ways things are pronounced like Ramen. Some of us say its R-au-men and some say its Ray-men. Caramel is another one. Is it car-mel or care-a-mel. So its possible that the Female Italian duolingo voice could even have that accent or something thats throwing it off. I do not want to show up in Italy in a couple years pronouncing everything wrong though lol. I did go back and do this same sentence a couple times and I didnt seem to get it right whatsoever. I will report them to troubleshooting. Its possible it could be a mistake on my part or even my phone, but not positive. Thank you.
I find it best to give the microphone more time to load, respond and then speak. It has glitched once, I just moved on and when it came round again, no problems. Best not to linger on the problem, move on and often the problem resolves itself. If it doesn't, Troubleshooting is your amico!
Thank you! Im thinking for me, there may be a glitch with rhat sentence alone. When I do go back to familiarize myself with that level and come across that one, its the only one I still continue to get incorrect. However, I am moving on with my lessons. I feel that as long as I am repeating it as she's saying it, it has to be good enough for one to understand atleast. I am pronouncing everything else without in issue so it's most likely just a few which shouldnt put a huge damper in my learning. As you said, not to linger on the problem. Its not as if she or myself are saying the whole sentence is incorrect. Then I really would have a problem lol.
If you want to solve such a problem, why do not you get engaged to an Italian? : D :D :D
Lol thats great! As soon as I am fluent enough and move myself to Italy ;-)
