"mI' wa'DIch 'oH wa''e'."

Translation:One is the first number.

It kind of makes sense to say this in English since to a non-native speaker "one" and "first" don't seem to have anything to do with each other until you know their meaning. In Klingon, however, it seems like it's almost a non-statement, since wa'DIch literally contains wa'.

Another example of this I've seen in previous lessons is leng lengwI', which I suppose makes as little sense to say in English as it does in Klingon.

Sometimes the whole point of a sentence like this is just to make the users go, "Oh, right, of course!"

It's not that it doesn't make sense to say it, it's just that you're stating the obvious. Sometimes you might do this for rhetorical effect: Haters gonna hate. Sometimes you're speaking to children: A painter paints.

You can take this further in Klingon: Quch QuchwI' Quch Quch Quch The happy person's happy forehead is happy.
