streak just dissapeared after 87 days of learning.
My mom has been learning spanisch continuosly since 87 days and was really proud about it. And yesterday she bought a streak freeze, because she was so afraid to loose her streak, she has a lot to do at the moment and thought she better makes sure she does not loose the streak if she has no time to learn for one day. That was yesterday. And today she wanted to learn and saw that her streak dropped down to 1 day and she is so unhappy and annoyed about this that she is completely unmotivated now to carry on. What happened there....that is so not fair, and especially after buying a streak freeze, it is even more annoying. :( please help!!!

That way it won't clutter up the Educator forum, and the answers you get might help others who look in Troubleshooting for information on how Duolingo works.

We might be able to take a look at her "extended user profile" and XP calendar progress as well as her setup "coach goal".
- 1) Mobile app (IOS/Android) or web portal? App version?
- 2) What browser?
- 3) What coach goal (1XP, 10XP, 20-50XP)?
- 4) What timezone is she on? Is the right TZ set on the Duolingo side?
It probably is a coincidence that two different factors come together.
Never heard or experienced in the past 2,5 years that buying of a "streak freeze" suddenly eliminates a current (saved) streak.
However you might be able to lose a streak if you have to buy a "streak freeze" multiple times in direct sequence; there actually have been reports like that when people are on vacation or are busy with their private life.
Freezes do not ALWAYS save a streak...dunno why.
If she uses the mobile app:
We have probably already found the problem.
They are not really reliable.
You can not 1000% FORCE synchronization.
Neither are there SYNC buttons, not a sync progress bar and for sure there aren't any "sync progress success" completion popup dialog messages.
The good news:
She can buy her streak with real $$$ and the "streak repair" item or by going with a "Duolingo Plus subscription" back within the first 1-2 / 3 days.
Sorry, we, the community users, can not directly see in the logs when:
- she was equipped with a streak freeze before (only the most recent buy is shown)
- when the streak freeze was last used
At least I have no idea how to see that....
Maybe there is another trick which I am not aware of...
Any senior API developer wants to comment?
AFAIK those internal log informations are probably only available to staff/admins....and I do not think that they really have the time to troubleshoot issues like this.
More recent Troubleshooting threads on our discussion forums have been opened by several users that lessons and XP progress was not registered successfully, when the "crown session" was completed.
If I should guess: This is it!
She has probably completed her lessons, but has made the failure to not double / triple check if XP progress has saved her streak (on the web portal, not the mobile app!) and was successfully registered on the online server / variables have been corectly set in the (public but hidden) "extended user profile".
This was the first time ever that she bought a streak freeze and that happened immediately after. She lives in Spain and uses only her mobile for Duolingo. She said to me that it is not fun for her now to carry on anymore if this could just happen any time. Which I can understand. Not a very good system if the streak is lost uncontrolled. I have read many more stories just the same like this . Someone loosing their streak after more then 700 days that is aweful
