Personal Dutch exercise #2: THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING
Hi everyone, I have receintly started practising my Dutch listening and I wanted to share with you my thoughts about this. In my previous post some great people gave me some resources to help me in listening practise; there were many, so I picked up one and tried.
The site that I use is "schooltv.nl" and I think that it is very useful because there are videos for various difficulties and they have (I do not know if all the videos do) the litteral text written on the bottom of the page.
For now I am going through 4 steps when excercising:
- I watch the video as it is and then I try to resume it by speaking if I am alone.
- I watch the video again and take a few notes and then I try to write down the content that I understood.
- I watch the video once more with the litteral text on the side of it.
- I read the text and I underline new words (using a text editor) and then look up for their meaning.
I highly recommend to everyone to practise their listening, because it is not easy for all the languages and it is something that improves only by doing it a lot and it also improves your ability to use the words you know. Do not overrate yourself too :)
