iPhone app crashes since version 6.25.1

The iPhone app was working well for a long time until update 6.25.1 a few days ago. The symptoms didn't start until yesterday though.

The app always crashes after a minute or two of use. For this reason the most I can do with the app is rush through one practice session before the crash.

Could be a coincidence but I recall two occasions it crashed when I chose the "Can't listen now" option.

The phone screen also dims and the device becomes hot which indicates the processor is under load. As far as I know, there isn't anything particularly taxing running in the background.

Running iOS 12.2 on iPhone SE.

I’ve also been having this problem for the past few days now. I’ve tried three different iOS devices (iPhone XS, iPhone SE, and an iPad Pro) and I can’t get through a single lesson without crashing. Signing out and back in, reinstalling the app, etc. doesn’t help either.

Is this at least a known issue that’s going to be addressed soon? The site works as a workaround, but I prefer using the app when possible...

It appeared to start working again today while I was on the move. I learned that the app is stable on a cellular network but crashes when on WiFi.

Weird.

Can anyone confirm this?

Nice find! I tried the app on my iPhone today over cellular and it appeared to be working again. I then tried to tether my iPad to my phone on cellular and try that, and at first it was crashing again. I was confused about why, since the connection should be similar, but then I realized I had a VPN running on the iPad that I didn’t on the phone (NordVPN). After turning that off, the app started running on the tethered iPad without crashing too. So cellular appears to be another viable workaround for me...at least for now based on my brief tests. I’ll keep trying it for longer periods to see if it returns though.

So far it’s still crashing on WiFi though, and even without a VPN running. But based on these discoveries, it seems like some kind of change introduced in the most recent app update is making it very picky about the connection type now.

I'm having the same issues too with my app crashing within a minute or two of opening it. I have version 6.25.1 of the Duolingo app as well, and I'm using an iPhone 6s with iOS 12.3.1 installed.

For me, the crashes happen on both wifi and cellular. I also prefer using the mobile app when possible, so I'd like to keep using the app if it doesn't keep crashing.

Crashes for me to. Closes about halfway into the session. With the current version it’s happening 100% of the time. Useless. iPhone XS and XS Max. Also 1 year old iPad.

Please go to the App Store and give 1 star.
