Duolingo on iOS is crashing for 9 days straight now 2019
I've only had the iOS Ipad Duolingo app for 12 days and just paid for it. But for the last 9 days straight ( July 8th - 17th - 2019 ) the app crashes 20 -50 seconds into any lesson before I can finish it. I have uninstalled the app several times, tried restarting the iPad and even signing in and out of the account. I've submitted 4 bug reports as well and the App is fully updated at 6.25.1
:Update#1: the app will continuously Crash even when Im not touching it at all. Ill just leave it afk on whichever tab and after about a minute it simply "Black Screens" then returns me to my iPad home screen.
:Update#2: App still wont stay open for longer then a minute, Will send another bug report every day until solved. Will ask to get a refund now, if at all possible.
:Update#3: iOS app still Crashing after 20 Seconds........................ Bug Report 3sent July 11 2019
:Update#5: Annnnd its Crashing over and over again.. ( July 13 2019 )
:Update#6 Still Crashing after about a minute as usual ( July 16th 2019 )
:Update#7: Still Crashing every minute ( July 17th 2019 ) Sending another bug report..... I wish they would respond and say somthing..................
Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
Same, although I get a couple of minutes before it blows up. I did notice the iPad heats up quite a lot too.
To be honest though skipping the app and doing it through the website is better in a few ways, none of the stamina bs(although I guess that doesn’t apply to you), and one can leave comments on each sentence’s thread rather than read only. Of course it also doesn’t run as smoothly so it’s six of one and a half dozen of the other.
Seems to consistently exit after about 35 seconds. You don’t have to do anything. Just open the app and wait.
I was having trouble with the mobile apps too. I can't listen to a sentence fully and I also can't use the microphone for speaking practice. That's why now I am using the website.
Having same problem and reported it. I’ve also investigated a bit myself. I’m running a privacy app which is blocking for connections to ”nosy websites”. I observed that just before a crash, the app had blocked for connections to doubleclick.net or doubleclik.com.
Allowing the connection .. made the problem go away. (But then someone will get data about me, which they are not entitled to. I’m a paying customer).
Anyone else who has experienced the problem running ad-blockers ?
If that's the cause, that would explain why the app works on cellular for me but crashes on WiFi -- we block doubleclick and other major intrusive ad/analytic sites at the DNS level on our network.
I hope this gets fixed soon as I'm not going to unblock any of those sites for one app, especially when I'm already a paying customer.
I have noticed in the App when it wants to feed adverts it is stopping there or occasionally skipping over them.
No ad blockers. Tried cell only (no WiFi). Booted after approx forty seconds.
Today attempted downloading the course .. running it off-line should keep doubleclick away, right?
Will never find out. Crashed after 2 minutes, and it is contacting doubleclick during download !
By the way - duolingo still runs after crashing .. and still makes sessions to google, facebook etc.
Untill they fix it I will use the web version and recommend everyone to steer away from the app
I just downloaded the current version for IOS on an iPhone Xs and got through a lesson without a crash, by disabling my wifi, and going cellular only (AT&T in California). I'm going to try again in a bit, and try to see exactly what is getting blocked by my pi-hole. Maybe Duolingo has been trying to monetize something new in the last couple of weeks.
Same here- I've tried deleting and reinstalling; Crash after 30 to 40 seconds. I have been limping along by logging directly into their website- that seems to work fine. It takes some work because a google search will hook you directly into the app again. Make sure you are in the website itself. This will hold me over until they send an update.
Finally found where I could raise a report and have done so. Like others, I have experienced crashing within a minute of entering app since its last update. Prior to this, I've been using for 2 years with no problem. I am able to use via the website on my laptop but I like the flexibility of using on my iphone. Hopefully, they will fix soon.
File one more report informing them of your intention to file a chargeback if they don’t provide some sort of response. Then next week phone up your bank.
I eagerly awaited the latest iOS app update (which dropped today, July 16) hoping the bug that caused my app to spontaneously quit half way through a lesson would be fixed. Sadly, the app is NOT FIXED. I still cannot get through a single lesson in Duolingo on my iPhone X running the latest version of iOS (12.3.1). I'm very upset that I'm paying for this app, and the app is not working properly on my iPhone. Please, Duolingo team, fix this bug promptly so I can continue my language training.
Just tried the newest version, latest iOS, and 45 seconds after launched it black screened and returned to the OS. Oh well, back to their drawing Board.
Although I have not received a reply from Duolingo, or had any updates to my mobile app, I tried it this weekend and it worked without crashing. I didn't post anything straight away but used for three days. I was able to complete my lessons. Whatever was causing the problem seems to have been fixed. Posted Monday 22nd July UK
Same here, but it looks like all advertising has been turned off for the time being.
I played the ads to get extra lives and points. I don't think they are turned off.
I would have said yes to this if it was crashing after you finish a lesson and it want to serve up an advert, but exiting after thirty or forty seconds after launching the app when you do nothing? Possible. Who knows what the programme is doing in background though. Filed another bug report, so they should be aware.
