Learning a second language from your other second language
I am a native english speaker with two second languages, french and spanish. I just started the Spanish from French tree. The basics are easy but sometimes I draw a blank I have never thought about french in spanish or vice versa.
Anybody else tried learning a new language from your second language? My french is better, I have been using it for 50 years and speak it fairly well. I am 2/3 through the spanish from english tree. I have never had formal spanish schooling.
Yes. I am doing so with Spanish - Portuguese. It definitely keeps everything fresh in your mind.
Good luck with your laddering! :D
(I want to do this with Spanish and Japanese!)
That's a perfectly normal thing to do for Duolingo users who are not native speakers of English, as most languages become available from (or even to) English first. Of course it's easier when you are at a near-native level in your second language. But if you are not, it helps improve two languages simultaneously and so is even more efficient.
