Unexpected listening practice

Yesterday I changed the language in my phone to Norwegian, so that I can at least get a little bit of daily exposure to the language. This morning I was driving somewhere I’d never been before so I got out google maps and entered my destination and started the navigation. For some reason it didn’t occur to me that the voice giving the directions would be in Norwegian, so it was a bit jarring to me at first! But even more surprising to me was that I could understand it! I got to my destination and home again with no issues, and got to practice my listening skills on numbers/distances, directions, etc. :)

Wow, that's a really interesting way to practise norwegian. I'l definetely be using it once I'm a bit better at it - if I started right now, I'd always be lost!

Such a good idea. I think for me, the most difficult part of learning a language is bringing it into my everyday life, and not just sporadic moments of 'learning'. If anyone has other ideas on how to immerse yourself in Norwegian, I'm all ears! Takk!

You should come and join a brand new group I've created on discord ( for people who are learning Norwegian. You don't need to be fluent in it, it's just to get help from real people!
