I have just completed 1825 days (5years) of continues study in Spanish
When I started to learn Spanish 5 year ago I did not know a single word in this language .Now I know close to 6000 words in this language. I talk to Spanish speakers and they are surprised to hear Spanish from an Asian Indian. I consider Duolingo is the best language learning tool .I support them. I think the world would be a better place if we all could support them .Thanks to Duolingo
That's quite an accomplishment! I plan to quit my streak when I hit a year (in two days) (it was quite something to keep it up so long) 5 years is amazing! Congrats!
you deserve a lot for that! Ive seen people finish two years, but never five years!
I said that too Polly. 365 days and I am done! I think I just automatically got out the phone and did some more lessons. Habit is hard to break!
Yes, look at that! You're already over 600 - well, maybe I'll see how long the habit holds out on me...
I guess you can lose your motivation to keep studying every day. Remember some of them are studying for more than a year. I am learning Deutsch for almost 4 months and there are so much to learn that keep me motivated but I guess when all the lessons get over I will leave this app. I do not yet. I need to finish and maybe it will take me more than a year. :)
Sigue asi Diego, nunca pares.
DiegoDutra: Your achievements are sooo impressive! It would be great if you could post your story here sharing your experience. I'm sure many of us will appreciate it! What's your native language?
Dear friend Diego... what the hell!! How is it possible? You already got 14 languages dominated. How? Can you explain this to me? You are so spectacular!!! :) You are my inspiration!! :D
Wow, what an amazing streak you have there!, I hardly couldn't hold that long...
I'd wish to have such dedication like yours, I get distracted so easily with other things in life not realizing how useful and entertainment is to learn a new language and knowing one thing or two everyday.
Next step, makin' a spanish friend and test my knowlegde, findin' out if it was worth my time. :)
I really feel you here. I still can barely keep a streak going. I usually have too much going on everyday that I just forget to do things, even eat sometimes. But it's so crazy to see how far people can go with a bit of dedication
My approach to DL is to do it at the same time every day (after breakfast). That way it becomes a habit and you're less likely to forget.
I remember how overwhelming some of the feelings were for me to hit my one year streak a couple of months back. I likewise felt that I was getting so much from Duolingo that I wanted to give something back to them in some way and happily bought my Plus membership. Congratulations on making it to FIVE years!!
Congrats!! Good job my friend greetings from Venezuela if you want to pratice in Spanish I will be here.
Hi... Five years studing spanish is a long time. I think you should write, understad and read very well. Could you write your post in spanish?. I ´m spanish and learn english, sometimes I ´m wronf but no one born taught. Saludos y buen trabajo.
Sam, so did you finish the entire Spanish course & then just do practices every day? Why 5 years? And are you using another online site to further your continued learning? I'm only two months in, using Duolongo only, but am curious what others are doing.
Sam this is what I was wondering, as well. How long did it take you to complete the entire course and then did you start back over or do practices everyday? That is incredible dedication!
Congrats. Are you fluent now? I'm learning french, another romantic language.
wow, impressive and respect. but are you finding yourself still improving your spanish with duolingo after such a long time.
5 years is either 1826 or 1827 days, depending on when it started. In your case 1826, because 2016 was a leap year, having a day more on 29th of February. Nevertheless: Congratulations! That's a freaking long time and i won't be able to beat you ever. First of all i hope to finish the Spanish course in a year, second because i will be in Cuba in between, learning from real people, not Robots, but due to honky-tonky internet overthere i probably won't be able to keep up my streak: either too complicated (via bad and complicated wifi), or too expensive for a Dutchie (via cellular data). We'll see. Keep up the good language spirit!
Damn I didn’t know it takes that long to Learn Spanish, Por qué me molesto...
Excellent post. I am with you. I new absolutely no Spanish other than a few words. Duolingo has help me a lot. I have not been doing as long as you but I hope to be someday.
Wow, this gives me hope and encouragement to continue my French studies! Congratulations!
Great to hear that. Did you use any other resources? Today is my day 90 studying Spanish and DL has been one of the best resources I have been using. It is inspiring to hear your story. Thank you for sharing. Any suggestions to make the tool worth the effort?
I'm so proud of you! Duolingo has also sparked my immense love for languages and inspired me to possibly keep learning in the upcoming years.
Good for you, or should I say, felicidades senor. Great dedication! Duolingo has been a great tool for me as well. Saved me a lot of money being able to drop Rosetta Stone, which is an inferior product anyway.
Fantastic! Congratuations. I have been learning Spanish "only" for 307 days without a break. Well... you have set the standard now. :-)
Felicitaciones. Comencé a estudiar inglés hace 18 días y su comentario me alienta a continuar.
And it's nice to see a comment thread in the language it's about. (I'm not saying I understand the thread, just that it's nice to see it! :) )
great i am learning japenese and i am english and only 14 years old can u give me some lingots
Vamos a ver!
What is the sirve of your confidence? I know aproximately 3200 works bit I not attempted a conversation outside of this app
Congrats man! Learning German myself, but attempting Russian. But, I have my main focuses on German.
I started learning Spanish because I love Latino music!
Cinco anos, todos los dias! Muy bien amigo!
I thought I had a decent streak going, but I defer with respect to your accomplishments! Keep going, and afterward, there's always Swedish. . .Japanese. . .Hindi. . . the world is amazing. Never quit learning.
Enhorabuena Samjkuruvilla, no desfallezcas.
Congratulations! And I totally agree with you that "the world would be a better place if we all could support them".
As of today, I've completed 1482 days. Never missed a day. Currently learning 7 languages. It's one of the first things I do every morning and sometimes even before I go to bed.
Thank you for your comment. And thank you Duolingo.
¡Felicitaciones, enhorabuena!
On one hand, those who achieve mighty unbroken streaks like your's are impressive. But, on the other . . .
People - it's not just about motivation.
If if was, then why bother? It's not compulsory to learn a language. Think about this: not learning a language won't lead to heart disease or diabetes. You won't land in jail for 'language debt' if you don't keep up your lessons!
If you want to learn, than learn. If you just want to dabble and learn a little about a particular culture and its language then that's fine, too.
I think the competitive environment here: measuring every step in a streak, leaderboards, etc - is starting to distort our perspective on what this is supposed to be about.
Especially what I'm concerned about is: whether we're neglecting other responsibilities in life in order to complete a 'streak'. It's not okay to neglect our families, friends, neighbours, even our health, just to complete a large 'streak'. Or even to become seriously proficient in a language (which is not the same thing as a streak on Duolingo - sorry) if the price becomes too high. Don't get me wrong. Learning a language - and the culture - is a great thing to do. But not at the expense of the things we already have.
That is the most amazing post in weeks! Congrats sir! This is such an accomplishment
Congratulations! I’ve just started with Spanish, but have managed 6 months with Swedish.
