Dutch - English course has too many bugs!
Multiple times, I am stuck not because I am not answering the correct answer but purely because the English translation does not match EXACTLY what the sentence means. I am here to learn Dutch not here looking for tit for tat correction in English!
Hi there! All accepted answers must be entered manually into the database by volunteers. If we go beyond exact translations, this quickly becomes infeasible. So we try to be consistent and stick to a set of rules to determine which translations to accept and which ones to reject. For example, if your answer would obviously back-translate to a different Dutch sentence, then we will not add it.
If you're 100% sure your answer should be accepted you can always report it and they'll look into it. Of course that takes a lot of time. I can imagine a lot of (false) reports come in on a daily basis. If you're not 100% sure you can always make comment on the sentence. Mods and other nice people on the forum (Dutch natives) will answer your question (often within a day). They can clarify a lot about the translations. A big problem with comparing/translating languages is that it is almost impossible to get literal translations all the time. Even with a clear equivalent in English, the Dutch word might have a slightly different meaning or a different use. When I started studying English in highschool I almost failed because I translated literally.
So, long story short: comment/report, wait for your answer/adjustment and happy learning :)
