Question for any native speakers - I've always been told that 'trollmann' was the best translation for 'wizard', but I noticed that Google translate suggests 'veiviser'. If I'd seen that word on its own, I would have assumed it meant something along the lines of 'soothsayer' (which I know is 'spåmann') or maybe 'fortune teller' (based on the idea of someone showing you the road), but not 'wizard'. Any thoughts? Does 'trollmann' = 'veiviser', or is Google translate lying, as it so often does?

It's possible that google is showing you the translation for 'wizard' as in software that helps you install a program. 'veiviser' literally means 'way-shower', or a person/sign/map that shows you the way, and does not have any magical powers.

'veiviser' is also informally used for sagittal abdominal hair, sometimes called 'happy trail' or 'treasure trail' in English.

I'd stick to what you've been told, and continue using 'trollmann' :)

Aha, I'd got the literal 'way-shower', but I didn't think of an installing wizard (and 'happy trail' hadn't even entered my head)! That makes sense - mange takk!
