I did it!!!
After 5 hard weeks of only earning 1 XP a day, I finally got demoted back to the Bronze league. At times I wanted to give up, do a normal,10 XP lesson, but I stayed strong. Heck, I even lost my 51 day streak so I could be demoted. (edited to add that I may have lost it because I forgot to do my 1 XP, but I am going to pretend it was because I was so dedicated to being demoted.)
It was so close. Just an hour ago, I was in the 44th place. Thankfully, the person behind me pulled ahead and earned ten more XP. I won! I made it to the Bronze league!
To anybody who is trying to get demoted: You can do it, don't give up. Life is hard, but now I am overflowing with happiness. It is all worth it.
Way to go! Not everyone has the stamina to do what you've done. You're an inspiration.
You are the personification of this great quote by one of the worst US presidents, Calvin Coolidge. You are my hero!
"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.”
Press on, chocohipkookie!!
I am determined to stay in Bronze for at least another 2 weeks, to get the full experience. It doesn't end once I get to Bronze. It ends when I get the 50th place in Bronze at the end of the week.
This is one of my favorite posts of the week! (No joke)
Congrats on reaching your goal. Very impressive! :)
If there was a Lingot Bank, I'd rob that mug, jussayin'! Demote myself on purpose? Not so much.
All my life I HAD TO FIGHT to get into that Gold league. People die every day to achieve the things you achieved, and you just... throw it all away. Pathetic, really.
And Bronze league? BRONZE? You know what else is bronze, Choco Chip Kookie? Do you? ...Pennies. Is THAT the lifestyle you wanna live!? And to think we were rooting for you. We were all rooting for you! HOW DARE YOU!
Here, take this lingot. Go and get you some sense.
Pennies are GREAT! Don't hate on the pennies!! THEY DID NOTHING TO YOU Insert crying emoji
You may think I let people down, I think I gave them inspiration to LOSE EVERY WEEK. (side note: there will still be endless complaints about leagues, but whatever)
HAHA! You're hilarious! Honestly, Leagues are not the end all be all. I also have a Busuu account (not sponsored, i promise lol), and I get all the motivation I need from that site because other language learners correct your writing and speech. For example, over 8 Native Spanish speakers, whom all study English on the app, have helped correct my Busuu assignments. They even have language proficiency tests hosted by Mcgraw Hill so you can check how fluent you are in the language (A1, A2, B1, B2) - On the free account, you can take a placement test to see approximately how fluent you are in your desired language.
The leagues do motivate me cause I'm a numbers guy, but I'm not going to sit in a dark corner of my bedroom and cry myself into a miserable ball of nothing. I just made it to Gold League, and the top person already has 400+ xp...LMAOOO! Like...how even does that head explodes
I like pennies by the way. I save them (along with dimes, nickels, and quarters) in a gallon jug, then when it's full, I dump them into a Coinstar machine to convert them to CA$H! ;)
ok i've written enough, goodbye lol
Oooo, Busuu looks good. I think I have used it before, but pretty sure it was a long time ago. If I took the test, I would probably get a negative A1 lol
Leagues used to motivate me, but I have moved on (I bet you probably already know that considering you read this post, but meh). Eventually Ruby just got bland, no use in staying in a league when there is no promotion.
Pennies are really great, I am glad we both like them. Insert dramatic (or sad?) music They deserve more. Nobody appreciates pennies enough. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk about pennies on a language site. Audience claps
I have also written enough so goodbye hehe
Oh wow, you are patient. And now you can have the satisfaction of working your way up again!
Lowchen, im responding to you here because it won't let me respond to you below. 1 XP lesson exist for timed practices, because I only do one answer and then let the timer expire :)
I think you went sufficiently overboard to make it clear to most that you were playing. But seeing as how one took it seriously, unless they are seriously playing with us which would be most impressive, it is almost a post that demonstrates Poe's Law.
It would be extraordinarily impressive. GASP Maybe that was their plan all along...
Man you are my hero. Who cares about the first when you can be the last with your own effort? You made me laugh. I understand what you did and I appreciate that.
Exactly. Being last is twice as more enjoyable than being first.Glad I could make you laugh :D
Side effects may include being tempted to get 1st in Bronze, then demoting from Silver back to Bronze, then repeating it again to grind for lingots.
Side effects of that may include earning lingots from levelling up.
Anyway, nice post. I think leagues would be okay if there was a setting that let you not participate without becoming private and/or if it used crowns.
Oh dang, thanks for letting me know. I will be cautious about the side effects. Don't want to get caught up with that :(
Also, completely agree with you. Wish it was optional, like how you could choose to be in a club.
I am confused, why would you want to get demoted? I'm in Ruby and it's awesome!
I understand this was a joke post, but why? I do duolingo, but I don't even care what league I'm in. I just try to learn, so then I can go up to people and talk to them in another language just to see their puzzled look. But what's the point in being first? You get brownie points and stuff like that but it's not important. All you do is waste your time and spend hours upon hours doing something that literally means nothing just so you can be first place. So if I'm going to learn a language, I'm not going to learn it to be first, I'm going to learn it to annoy people for the fun of it.
