Laughing at my mistakes!
Working on learning Spanish in my spare time since I work at a community college and feel like it would be helpful for me. I just laugh at myself sometimes when I get to typing in answers too quickly, I slip back into English when I am not paying attention.
The other day I was supposed to translate "Excuse me, Luis" into Spanish and I typed "Pardon me, Luis." in complete English. I went from English to ... still English. hahahhaha Literally laughed at myself. That is usually when I realize I had been practicing for too long and needed to take a break.
Another one, I was supposed to say the girl was very happy (muy feliz)... I ended up saying the girl was very easy (muy facil)! haha oops! I know both words. I just got ahead of myself and wasn't thinking!
Anyone type some crazy or funny answers when going too fast or you've been practicing for too long?? I'd love to hear them!
Yep. I've done the same thing when in a rush. Lol! That's when I remind myself to slow down while completing the lesson or return to it the following day.
This totally happens all the time! I hear the a language and I'm like "I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS" and it turns out I translated English to English. It's really embarrassing when my English to English translation is wrong and I start questioning my existence.
I made a funny mistake listening to a lesson once. I thought I heard the woman say gracias adios, and I thought I learned a new phrase, that meant thanks, but no thanks, goodbye or something like that.
Instead it was just gracias a dios. Thank God!
Yeah, I have done the same thing in the morning when I was trying to get some practice before work and not fully awake.
Right now I'm just focusing on French - but when I was rotating between German, Spanish and French, I'd sometimes translate a sentence into the wrong language. It would make me laugh - but not sure if it is as funny to others. I confuse celibataire (single) with célèbre (famous) - just not sure that I can blame it on practicing too long.
PS - Just noticed this is in the Spanish forum. Sorry for my French.
I have done that many times, usually when I'm tired. Nice to know I'm not the only one!
i haven't done that yet, i just started learning spanish and i am currently on school. I LOVE YOUR STORY!!!
I got one of the "type what you hear" questions. I happily translated it to English. At least Duo recognized that I translated it.
I've done that too!! I am also glad that Duo accepted the correct translation. I do it more when I am working on the computer because I can type very quickly and my fingers start going in English before I even have a chance to think about it! It's like they have a mind of their own!
