"They have a knife in their boots."
Negli stivali is correct. Gli is used before words starting with s followed by a consonant . And it is nelle uova
Yes. In addition to words beginning with the s impura, lo / gli are used before words beginning in ps (psicologico), z (zaino), gn, pn, x, or y.
One single egg is masculine: l'uovo, nell'uovo. Two or more eggs are feminine: le uova, nelle uova.
how come it's not "nei stivali"? I thought that the "gli" is supposed to come before words that start with a vuol and there for i'm supposed to say for example "negli uova"..
Huh. It seems to accept "nei" for me, but it's weird that it shows "negli" as correct. Hmm.
BTW, my answer was "Loro hanno un coltello nei loro stivali." Which was probably too wordy, but it was accepted.
the "gli" comes before words that start with a vowel and words start with S + consonant (lo squalo = gli squali, lo stivalo = gli stivali, etc.) Also the "gli" comes before the word starts with Z (lo zoo, lo zucchero)
Ah, yes. I learned that right after I posted the above comment. :P
Oh yeah, and I might add that you also use "lo" or "gli" before words starting with "x", "y", "gn", "ps", and "pn".
