XP Credit for work done before given assignment

Can students get XP point credit for work done during a specific time for an assignment that was just assigned to them? So, I created the assignment in June, but I didn't know that if the students joined the class after I created the assignment the assignment would not automatically be assigned to them. If a student had been practicing in June and July and the assignment is given to them in August, will they get credit for June-July on an June-September assignment?

That's a great question...not sure what the answer is. My initial guess is they won't because it will show the assignment being turned in late. One thing I have done is to change the due date and then it extends the time for the students who came late into the class. That seems to help.
