"Eu acredito mais em dieta do que em drogas."
Tradução:I believe more in diet than in drugs.
I tried "I trust diet more than drugs", and I missed the answer. While one of the correct answers is "I trust in diet more than drugs".
According to the dictionary, trust as a verb (to have confidence in) is not followed by preposition: I trust that (Eu acredito nisso). However, trust as a noun (the belief that sb/sth is good) is really followed by preposition: I have trust in that (Eu tenho confiança nisso).
(Note that in portuguese, both verb and noun are followed by the preposition.)
On the other side, according to the same dictionary, "trust in" is a phrasal verb, which means "to have confidence in" formally.
What do you think?
- Verbo confiar (VTI) - Confiar em alguém. Ex: Eu confio em Deus.
O equivalente em inglês seria "I trust in God".
"I trust in you" = "I believe in you" = "I have faith in you"
- Verbo confiar (VTDI) - Confiar algo a alguém. Ex: Eu confio meus segredos a você.
O equivalente em inglês seria "I trust you my secrets".
Quando eles dizem: "I trust you" está subentendido que se está confiando alguma coisa (secrets, possessions etc)
