Trouble Pronouncing Kvinna
This is my first day on Duolingo and I was interested in the Swedish course. I can pronounce most words just fine but I seem to have a bit of trouble with kvinna even though I have a general idea on how it sounds, I just can't discern exactly what i'm hearing from a TTS voice,
I know this sounds like a stupid question since this is one of the first words you learn from the course but I'm planning on learning Swedish to talk to some of my Swedish friends more comfortably and I think I'd rather be correct with my pronunciation than learn more words and forget that I had a problem in the first place.
Any advice is welcome and a spelt out pronunciation is what I'm looking for but if you want to educate me on why it sounds like it does then I'd be glad to listen as I'm looking forward to finding out the ends and outs of this language.
Thank you! (I'll keep this thread open just in case I have trouble pronouncing any other words)
Thanks for the resource, I'll definitely use it whenever I encounter a new word because the TTS can't always be relied on when it comes to pronunciation!
That makes the I letter too long and the N letters too short. With English pnonetics I think it's pronounced exactly as it is written if you put a dash between the N letters. I wrote "kvin-na" in this text-to-speech program and it sounds about right, while "kveen-a" and "kveen-ah" do not: https://www.naturalreaders.com/online/
Maybe it's because I rely on the 'slow' button. It still sounds like 'kveen-a' to me! Kanske är mina öron fulla av vax! (maybe my ears are full of wax!)
Yeah, that sounds like it! When I think about it that way it's way easier to pronounce correctly each time I say it.
Thanks, I thought that might have been it but the text to speech voice made it hard for me to discern. The first time I heard it I thought it was pronounced like "Keena" or "Kleena" lol
