Irish Netflix

I just found a petition for Netflix to include programming in the Irish language, which would be very helpful in learning!! So I thought I’d share the link here in case anyone else wants to sign :)

I replied further down(up? this forum...), but I'll put this here for visibility:

Go to TG4.

https://www.tg4.ie/ga/

If you have internet you can watch online. Most shows are not georesticted. I watch it all the time. You have a choice to turn on subtitles or not.

Warning: you must have a good Internet connection for the stream. Before we got improved service, I'd go to the library.
Oh, the also have an app in Google play store for both iphone and Android.

An-chraic!

Edit: just signed the petition. ;)

Yes! My relatives in Ireland said it was discontinued a few years back and no one knows it is available again. They are trying to get the word out.

Are there any in the Irish language on Netflix now?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/SammieSays

Don’t appear to be any in the Irish language at this time.

My relatives in Ireland knew of several Irish speaking movies, but none are in circulation anymore. Also there is small collection of black and white movies in Irish from the 1940's but they are privately owned and not available to anyone.

RTE in Ireland has an Irish language channel and there are programs in Irish but they mostly seem to be blocked outside of the country. If they were available on Netflix it would be awesome!

Most shows are not georesticted. I watch it all the time. You have a choice to turn on subtitles or not. Except Aifric---they're all hard coded.

There are some Irish speaking movies on YouTube. Most are movie shorts.

replying here because @scoulter83 is apparently nested too deep to reply to. try searching 'gearrscannán gaeilge' or just 'gearrscannán' for plenty of irish language shorts on youtube. also i solicited some recommendations on twitter: https://twitter.com/joan_an_triu/status/1157413598768947201

go raibh maith agat! The videos on that link play just fine for me! I'm going to have to send it to my mhamó, see if she remembers enough to have a real conversation! I just wish my mom or siblings were interested.
