'do' and 'not' were not available in the word bank, so I had to go with 'they hand over the gems to him' which is the exact inverse of what I was supposed to say but it's still correct???

When you find stuff you think are mistakes you should report it. This is just a simple mistake because the course is in beta

'to her' should also be accepted.

Any idea what is wrong with "They do not give him the gems"? I don't see a difference between "to give" and "to hand over".

They are not exact synonyms.

in the accepted answer the "not" ("non") is missing!

Why is 'They do not hand him over the gems' incorrect?

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/OsoGegenHest

That is dialectal.

Check please the pronunciation of "gemmas "in this sentence

Why? Where do you see a problem?

The narrator says 'yemmas' rather than 'gemmas'. Quite a conspicuous mistake if I may so so.
