Once again, when I clicked on "deram" it said "have given". When I translated the sentence as "They have given money." it was considered incorrect. They gave money vs. They have given money. Hmmm......

Have given is "ter dado." Present perfect, not simple past.

I do believe you mean present perfect, as past perfect would be "had given" = «tinham dado». Also, "They have given..." = «Eles têm dado...».
