Why ¨very¨ many?

Plurimus is the superlative of multus. The superlative can be translated a variety of ways- most commonly as "adj-est" or "most adj'. Another common translation is "very adj."

Ergo plures vs pluri(ssi)mus

"Most" should also be acceptable for "plurimos".

Certainly, since it's the actual English superlative for "many," just as plūrimī is for multī .
