'Mother' is माँ (mā̃).
मामा (māmā) is 'mother's brother' (uncle).
To me it's a bit confusing too because in Spanish ( my mother tongue) mamá is mum
'Julia's mother is ill' is an acceptable (and probably more common) British English alternative.
मामा is 'uncle' (specifically, mother's brother), not 'mother'.
'Julia's uncle is ill' is accepted for this sentence.
