Can you clean my backside today please????
Quick explanation - I'm a window cleaner and clean for quite a few people, whose first language is not always English.
Well, I clean the front windows for a certain lady and every now and again, when she asks me, I'll clean the back windows too.
The only problem is, every time she asks me, she always asks, "can you clean my backside today please"? I've got used to it now, but I certainly raised an eyebrow when she asked me the first time.
If only she knew .........
Yes, tell her - it will only give her a little embarrassment, compared to a lot if she continues saying it. That's the kindest thing to do.
OR, she is not making a mistake and is waiting for you to catch on. Just kidding!
Is Spanish her native language? Ask her how she would say it in spanish. Oh, you mean "English translation"...
Or "you want me to clean the windows in the back?" A couple very subtle ways to correct her without embarrassment.
There was a small taverna in Greece I once saw. Its front was drab and ugly, but its hidden rear terrace had a wonderful view of the sea. Inevitably, someone had erected a sign outside its frontage, Come and see the beautiful spot on the backside. I suspect the owners were well aware of the double meaning
One of my dad's exes was like this... she couldn't pronounce or say certain words right and the way she said the words made them sound like cuss words so we used to laugh at her a lot. She was an Argentinian immigrant.
