5 Year Streak!
“Do you know what a foreign accent is? It's a sign of bravery.” ― quote by author Amy Chua
As I celebrate my five year streak, I am thankful for you, fellow language learner! Without your curiosity of the world and eagerness to understand, there would be no need for DuoLingo.
Although we may never meet or compete in a league, it is a comfort knowing you are on this journey with me.
Let us be courageous as we go forth and speak in our new tongues.
Outstanding streak. Even more outstanding message. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...a journey of fluency begins with a single word.
Thank you, Songve! I love what you wrote: a journey of fluency begins with a single word.
Five years is actually 1826 days, due to the leap year in 2016. So here's to congratulating you a day in advance! :)
Thank you for pointing that out, Dugggg! Now I have an extra day to celebrate! :)
congratulations, as your flags show, you are willing to show a lot of bravery. I guess it is not the last time that I see one of your posts.
That's a really nice post. Congratulatons, and I hope you continue to thoroughly enjoy your languages. I love this site too - I have to drag myself away from it sometimes or I'd get nothing done! :)
You can do it, too, Cucumberman! In fact, you are doing it. You have studied your way to Level 23 in Spanish! Learning a language is much more important than maintaining a streak.
I keep motivated by remembering the joy that knowledge brings. But I pace myself so I don’t grow weary of learning. Sometimes I complete a lot of lessons, other times I allow myself to complete only one.
That's graet. I never get weary of learning ,too. As I haven't gave up learning english even after almost 8 years. I think languages have a whole different and amazing world that you can live in with no fatigue. But I'm affraid I've got other things to do now -as I'm entering the college in a month-so I can't spent as much time as I spent in English for French. ( I guess I've got a grammatical Engllish mistake even after 8 years and so, but I don't know how to fix it
Your English is excellent, Paris! I still make many grammatical mistakes, even though it is my first language. I wish you great success in college!
So may I help you with your English a little here as I too never get weary of learning and sharing the care. I've copied and edited your original text below and I leave it for you to look for and identify the changes I made - I hope this helps and good luck and have a great time in college. I want to get a long streak but we go to town (which is 1hr away) a lot so I am having trouble finding time
Congratulations my best friend on earth ! You are like a candle which allow vision when electricity stops. Active, preseverant and frank. You achieved what I am dreaming to achieve : going on in learning from Duolingo and in harmony with Duolingo moderators so as they mostly upvote you. Unfortunately, whenever I achieve more progress in languages whenever Duolingo moderators grimace about their teeth to me by downvoting and killing my comments. Therefore I am proud of you.
Thank you for the kind words, Pollyperki! Please try not to worry about those people who downvote. They are in pain and hurting. Congratulations on reaching level 25 in two languages!
I think Pollyperki is using the word moderator to describe all people in the message boards.
that is amazing - my mind is blown! great work! keep collecting those flags!
Congratulations - five years is a long time. May your language learning and streak continue as long as you choose. :)
Oh my, time does fly :(
Congratulations for your streak, the 10 year streak you may post in 2024 ;)
This is such an achievement! As someone who just started I'm amazed at your dedication! I hope I can stick with it just as well as you can!!
Thank you, Cody, and welcome to DuoLingo! You are already at Level 7. That’s a sign you are enjoying the journey!
Harold172355 how did you get the Duo gang to line up like that? So cute! I’ve been wondering how to access all the different outfits Duo shows up in.
Thank you, Elizabeth! It is very sweet of you to say you are inspired. That makes my day!
Amazing achievement. Very kind and motivating words. Congratulations and thank you! Do you do parallel lessons of multiple languages or do one at a time? And how do you stay clutter free while learning multiple languages?
Thank you, Rahul! I usually study one language at a time. My primary focus is Spanish. I will stop for a while and work on another language and then return to Spanish. I try to group languages in my mind by family, such as Romance or Germanic.
Do you use any other learning tools for learning Spanish? I think i'm doing okay for now but my lack of practicing it in conversations is hindering my progress. Can you please share any tips from your experience while learning Spanish?
You can also use spanishdict and conversation exchange. I can't thank enough to my Venezuelangue friend Mr. Julio whom I met in conversation exchange. Sometimes, we have direct conversation which helps you a lot.
Rahul, I wish I had a lot of tips to share. I studied Spanish for two semesters in university, so I already had a basic foundation when I started DuoLingo. I sometimes watch movies in Spanish to improve my listening skills, which, I must admit, are poor. Yet, even with all the studying, I still consider myself an elementary speaker.
Haha, maybe you're being modest. Also native Spanish speakers sound (seem) fast, it makes it difficult to understand. We don't have slo-mo option in the real world like Duolingo :P. Anyway, thank you for your time. I hope you go even longer in your streak, and your learning quests.
Congratulations! I love your quote about a foreign accent being a sign of Bravery. Those of us who study languages, realize that our second language may never reach the level of fluency of our first language, but it is still a challenge to pursue.
Thank you, Vernon! I agree about fluency falling short. I am always thrilled and a bit surprised when I manage to form a simple, but full sentence from a thought.
I love that quote about the foreign accent! It is so true! Sometimes we can be so afraid to learn a new language (or learn anything really) because of fear of not doing it "right" and we miss out! It takes a lot of commitment to learn a new language and definitely a lot of bravery! You have such an impressive streak! I hope to one day reach it! Thank you for your motivating words and post! Keep up the amazing work!
Congratulations. I dislike Amy Chua, but accents are great. What is your favorite language? What keeps you going? Gut gemach, bien hecho.
Thank you, Lorel90! Congratulations on your long streak! I have to admit that I don’t know much about Amy Chua other than the little I gleaned while briefly scanning Google to ensure the quote was correctly attributed. Normally, I wouldn’t share a quote by someone I’m not familiar with, but it spoke how I feel better than I could. My favorite language? That is hard to answer. I love them all for very different reasons. I study Spanish the most. The quest for knowledge keeps me going. I am an avid lifelong learner. When I’m not studying languages, I take classes on sites like Coursera and EdX.
Congratulations! This is so exciting! Languages are a lot of fun to learn!
wow! I cant even keep streak for 3 days! congratulations! good luck on you future years!
Thank you, AllyBally! It’s more important that you keep learning than to keep a streak.
Wow!! How motivating! Thats incredible! I hope to keep it up for even 1/4 of that time ^_^
I can't agree more ! Keep it up ! I may continue though I've stopped time and again. I will try my best for consistency and will give undivided attention. I have started writing Spanish poem. You are my inspiration in Duolingo !!!
Thank you, Nepal! I am humbled that you consider me an inspiration. It is wonderful that you are writing a poem in Spanish!
I appreciate the message you're trying to share, priceless. Congrats on you streak!
This is really amazing Grandmumm! Congratulations, you have done a good job so far. Our learning journey is really great with all the great students like you! Continue com seus esforços, bons estudos!!
Congratulations! Your streak represents your persistence, and I'm getting motivated.
I have just passed both my 470 and 480 day streak. We used to get lingots for that, but I didn't on those two occurrences. Any idea why? (Not sure why it matters because I'm not sure there is anything else to spend them on other than giving them away to folks to provide help in areas I'm stuck in these forums!)
Congratulations on your long streak, Justlisax! I only recently noticed that Lingots are no longer awarded for streaks. I assume that is another intended change they made. I was they would add more things to buy in the store.
Thank you for pointing out my error, Lightning! Proofreading is not my strongest skill. :)
Congratulations I only started 5 days and what you did seems impossible to me See you in 2024 for your 10 year streak hopefully then I will have a 5 year streak just like you do now
Thank you, Little Nuke! Yes, let’s plan for 2024. And, welcome to DuoLingo!
Congratulations Grandmumm! I hope to make it to my five year mark with as many accomplishments as you!
madre mia¡¡ this is amazing grandmumm I just started with duolingo, I truly beleive you are an inspiration. It is really far from where I am now, just learning one language at a time. muchas felicidades! and thanks for sharing, following you right away!
Mama, Dafür verdienst du viele Respekt. Und Zusatliche gebe ich dir ein paar wertlos Lingot.
Congrats! Personally I just lost a 3 year streak for no reason (not sure why), I am a bit shocked, but all that matters is knowledge! It feels...interesting!
Congratulations and that's a great message. Here's to many more happy years language learning!
Congrats. I honestly admire you. It takes crazy discipline to stay committed for that long. Can i ask you if you have learn all those language? Could you have a conversation if you went to any of those countrys?
if you want tips on maintaining a streak, here are my suggestions: It helps to set the daily goal really low. I usually do a little in the morning, and then if I feel like it, I'll do more duolingo later in the day. you're on your way!
Congrats! I'm thankful that you're here too. I know you probably don't have much use for these but have several lingots! Use 'em however you see fit. :)
Thank you, SGuthrie! Congratulations on your long streak! I usually focus on one language at a time, returning to refresh my Spanish in between. I think our brains naturally compartmentalize languages to a degree. However, when I’m completing a DuoLingo lesson quickly, I sometimes find myself typing a sentence using words in both Spanish and English.
congratulations fellow learner! Your achievement has motivated me even more. Keep on achieving your goals!
I am impressed with the focus you have shown. I am sure that you have faced some challenges during this streak that make it even sweeter! Congrats!
Super inspiring streak and even more so, your words/message!! Thanks a million!! Or 1...lingot that is ;)
Congrats I know how hard is it to keep such a long streak. I am close to 4 years and would be devastated to loose it. Congratulations
Congrats! :) It’s nice to see some other persistent people loving languages so consistently!
whatttttttt!!!! how is that possble also, do you now de way?!?! I go to meme college.
Wow, what a long streak! What languages are you studying at the moment and are you completely fluent in any languages because of doulingo?
Congrats on 5 years. very impressive feat and I'll try and get there too after just hitting a 2yr streak a few days ago. Still a bit to catch up to you :P
Das ist fantastisch! This is fantastic! Esto es fantástico! C'est fantastique!
But still Duolingo is kinda useless, but addictive. I can't say that I learnt anything significant during those years.
Congrats Grandmumm, it is very impressive and touchy for me to see Turkish among the languages you studied. All the best
