The Customary '1000 Day Streak!' Post; Thanks to the Swedish and French course contributors

Hi everyone, I have had some people who know me personally and keep an eye on my Duolingo progress congratulate me on my 1000 day streak, and some have even called it "inspiring". Although I have learned to speak Swedish with reasonable fluency, from scratch and it started with Duolingo, and to an extent the same with French (not to fluency and not so much based in Duolingo, since there are many other resources), personally I find it almost off-putting that anyone would be 'inspired' by me and my relatively lazy language habits.

BUT, if, 1000 days ago, in late 2017, you'd told me that I would genuinely be able to say that I speak Swedish and French in September of 2019, I'd had difficulty believing you. So I guess 2017 me is definitely inspired by 2019 me and the small and gradual changes that I've implemented which enable me to be more productive and have good days the resemble what used to be good WEEKS, and bad days that resemble what used to be good days. As a result of getting seriously into language learning, I've learned how to do more with my time while also being more generous with it. I want to thank, in PARTICULAR, those volunteers who built and maintain the Swedish course, with their constant patient tweaking of accepted answers and their grammatical explanations to us spoilt English speakers, as well as the members of many nations who contribute positively and suggest corrections and all the little things that make Duolingo work well in both the French and the Swedish courses. Many of them won't see this, but I also have tonnes of Swedes and Frenchmen whom I've gotten to know in the last ~3 years whom I owe a huge thanks to.

This really inspires me because I am taking the Swedish course as well and I struggle with saying "the ant." Thanks for inspiring me to try my hardest on Duolingo!

Hahaha, I only just saw this comment in context, and it's hilarious. (I am assuming you meant it as in, the small steps that an ant would take?)

Thank you. I am semi considering deliberately ending my streak because I don't think it's helpful anymore and it actually distracts me from REAL language learning pursuits.
