извини or ивините

When is the proper time to use извини or ивините. I keep struggling with it. What is the difference?

"Извини" is singular ([ты] извини меня) and "Извините" is plural or polite ([вы/Вы] извините меня).

Russian has two version of you, plural and single. Like I - we (Я - мы), you - you (ты - вы). If you are close to someone, like to friend, you can use "ты". (Single form of you, thou(the old)) извини.

More familiar is plural form of you (Вы) to use it to a single person, i. e. he is older than you. Or you can imphasize your respect this way. Вы, извините.

Also you can use "вы" like plural form of you. вы, извините. (you appeal to many people).

If you're on a meeting, you'd more likely to say извините, because it is formal. If you're talking to a friend, or a close to you person, you'd more likely to say извини, because it is not formal.
