No longer have the option to type in Chinese pinyin (disable the word bank) in iOS?

I used to be able to turn off the word bank and type my answers in Chinese (pinyin) with the iOS app once I got to level 2 or 3. However, now I never get exercises where I can use pinyin instead of the word bank even when doing level 3 or 4 lessons.

Is this an A/B test that they just activated on my account or have other app users noticed this too?

It's frustrating because typing my answers in pinyin instead of relying on the word bank was the most effective way for me to learn.

Now I have to use the web version if I want to be able to type pinyin.

Sadly that is the case, They used to have the writing system in Andriod but now we just can't do anything :( and have to use the word bank which is not effective way to learn the characters at all

Ah I see. So instead of adding it to Android they removed it from iOS. That’s disappointing :/

Thank you for your confirmation. Was hoping this was not the case.

I miss typing too. (I'm on Android, and it worked nicely for the short while it was activated.) Using the website is glitchy and cuts off the sound at the end of words. I'm ready for a better pronunciation course elsewhere, but I can was enjoying Duolingo. I'll miss it if it ends up just wasting my time. Anyway, here are a few lingots to commiserate.

Same here (iOS user) and missing it as well. Could anyone from Duolingo comment on why they deactivated this?
