iPhone app and Esperanto spelling

I tried Esperanto on Duolingo , it wouldn't let me use either the traditional h-system or the popular x-system for getting around unobtainable characters. Does anyone know how I can do Esperanto on Duolingo while using an iPhone? If I get marked wrong for writing Cxu or Chu or cu and ankaux, or ankau when I need to switch to a non-Apple brand of computer-machine for writing ĉu or ankaŭ, then I'd never keep a streak because I'd never be able to do the Duolingo outside of home! Is there any hope?

I use my iPad to do these lessons. I just type “cu” or “ankau”. You don’t have to use a diacritical mark. The answer is counted as correct and Duolingo tells me I have spelling errors and prints out the correct form of the sentence.

Thank you, thank you for the encouragement!

A couple? of years ago when I did the Esperanto course I used a third party keyboard called "klavaro" It wasn't a nice as the built in keyboard but it did mean I could type the special characters. It looks like it is still available on the app store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/esperanto-keyboard/id1053129877#?platform=iphone

Thank you, I am trying that!

Esperanto Keyboard (klavaron) does let me add an Esperanto keyboard on my iPhone. I did not give it full permissions in my phone settings and it does work on the Duolingo app; but, I don't want to put it on my iPad. I just now tried the x-sistemo during my placement test while adding esperanto to my study languages. Thank you, everyone who answered, thank you. Now I have four languages to study!

Mi uzas MessagEase-klavaron (Esperanto). Vi povus tajpi ankaŭ per SwiftKey-klavaro (Esperanto). — Ambaŭ klavaroj funkcias kaj en iOS- kaj Android-aparatoj.

Dankon, bajanisto; mi findis MessagEase keyboard por min iPhonen. Nun mi havas du klavarojn. Dankon al bajanisto kaj dankon al hamishmcn!

Nedankinde! — Por iom testi Esperanto-klavararanĝon de MessagEase, bv. tratajpi mian (etan) vortliston en la alia mesaĝo.

"Klavaro" doesn't seem to be available anymore, which is a shame, because it had a decent selection of autocomplete words. I like it a little better than "Esperanto Keyboard". I do wish someone would make an Esperanto keyboard for iOS based on the modern keyboard APIs. Perhaps I should get off my pugo and get on it.

The link given by hamishmcn took me to the app, where I was able to download that to my iPhone. I have downloaded and not yet tried the app suggested by bajanisto, but that looks like it (as bajanisto's message says) should work on android and iOS devices, both. All seems well.

There is currently a bug that the x-system isn't working for capital letters (most observable in questions that start with "Ĉu..."), which we have contacted the Duolingo staff about; we're still waiting for a solution. As far as I know the x-system should be working with lowercase letters, meaning something like "ankaux" should be accepted as typo-free for "ankaŭ." Can you reproduce the "ankaux" bug and post a screenshot for us? Thanks!

I just now, again, added Esperanto to my learning. Cxu instead of Ĉu is working as I went into my iPad for doing the start-up test (not an absolute beginner, but I have much to learn). Maybe my old problem is no longer a problem!

I just tested this as well - it is accepted, but it is flagged as a "typo." If you have too many (>1? >2? not sure) typos in an answer, it is rejected. However, if you only have one, it is accepted. So if you type "Cxu" and don't have any typos, your answer will be accepted, while if you type "Cxu" and have a typo, your answer will be rejected, even though it should be accepted with a typo. So unfortunately the bug is still live :(

:( thankfully, my question resulted in gaining optional ways of keying responses. Now, although I can insert all sorts of characters on this laptop, the app software suggested by other users give me key input options on my phone and iPad. So, I'm set for now. THANKS to all!
