German from English

The translation for the word "girl/girls" can also be "Mädel/Mädels" and the translation for "boy/boys" can also be "Junge/Jungs". Duo ???

Duolingo starts you off with the most common ones or the ones in places such as the capital, if that explains why it may not be there

You are right, but the translations are originally regional terms (Mädels Southern Germany; Jungs Northern Germany) that found their way into more colloquial language. The “official” terms are Junge/Jungen and Mädchen/Mädchen.
