What is the difference between a castle and a palace?

A castle is a secure fortress, and a palace is a special house set aside for royalty.

Hm, maybe, palace is a luxury house? Not sure though...

p.ketski- some hotels are called palace, because they're really luxurious

I've heard that some luxury houses in Spain are called palacios even though they are not owned by royalty. However in the UK, as far as I know, only Royalty own palaces.

"Castillo" = "castle" , "palacio" = "palace".
