Is there a reason why “ego noctu soleo saltare” wouldn’t be acceptable?

Can someone explain the form of noctu?

It's an adverb.

I thought nocte would be accepted as an ablative of time (nox, noctis (f) - 3rd declension) instead or as well as noctu. eheu! It was not accepted! Comments?
