New words tab again

After getting thousands of XP strengthening hundreds and hundreds of words, I am down to the last 30 words that simply WILL NOT strengthen no matter what I try! Sigh. Grr. I am certain I have used some of those 30 words in sentence after sentence, but they still won't update. For example, I still need to strengthen 'rouge'? Really?!?! I've used it a dozen times on DL today alone!

Wow! That must have taken you ages! Well done! I have rather given up, having now seen words that are classed as 'overdue' but also listed as 'last seen one week ago'! How long has that taken you?

It's been spread over the last two weeks (since the Words tab appeared) so it hasn't been too bad, but yes, a time investment. :-) I was looking for the 'satisfaction' of seeing everything gold and completely strengthened. Sigh. I found that I can "force" Duo into presenting some words by going into the individual skill to strengthen just that skill - or even simply re-doing a specific sub-skill completely - so that helped some. However, there are 7 words that I can't get Duo to give me to practice AT ALL. And I have the other 23 words that Duo says I have practiced within the last two weeks, but still says the strength is 'overdue.' I am convinced it must be a programming error - it updates the 'last practiced' field, but forgets to update the 'strength.' Wish I could somehow tag kristinemc or rémy or someone.

Hope you keep trying in spite of the big obstacles! I can at least say I have gained a better grasp or the language, even if I didn't gain the 'satisfaction' I was trying for. :-)

It's possible that those words were ones that are part of your vocabulary, but have been removed from our lessons over time as our tree changes. In that case, they would appear on your vocabulary page but would not show up in your practices/lessons. I'll look into this - thanks for the report!

Yes, it appears to be a disconnect between the way we display the strength and the way that we generate sessions. This should be fixed in the next iteration - but essentially I wouldn't recommend trying to use global practice to strengthen those words for now. Skill practice might be more effective.

For the first time in 3 weeks, 'rouge' FINALLY updated!! Coincidence or is it fixed? In case my comment above about 'rouge' actually led to the fact that 'rouge' updated, here is a list of the other words that simply won't update: jouez, plaît, promènes, agis, regardons, semblent, parlent, pensons, sens, appartient, cousines, vrais, nouvel, respectons, vivons, couleur, fort, descends, cousins, saison, jouent, gentille, retournent, janvier, petit-fils, travaux, mercredi, sac, portfeuille, reine.

That would explain a lot! Thanks for taking a look at it anyway; I'm keen to use the new tab, as I found the old vocabulary very useful, but as it is now the new one is just depressing!!

Hello bchan, did you make any progress with this? I really want to use the words tab, but don't feel able to at present; really hope that does not make the team think it is not potentially useful!

Hm, so two days ago I had only 25 words that needed to be strengthened (not golden). Today, it suddenly jumped to 48 words (?!?!) that need to be strengthened AND it only tells me that each word is a noun, verb, adjective, etc. instead of exactly which skill set they are found in. Sigh. Stupid words tab! Grrrr!

I've just seen what Amy-Schultz has reported below; the words are now listed simply as noun, verb etc, with no idea about which skill to strengthen if we want to concentrate on certain areas. What is happening?! Also, I have done numbers sets of the flashcards, but still have pages of words done ;'just now' or 'yesterday' that are marked 'overdue'. This is really frustrating!

I think you might be right about the programming problem; have you reported it through the support tab? I have done so, but had no response, but maybe if lots of people say the same thing..?

Ok, reported through the Support tab also. I would feel better if they would acknowledge that they are aware there are problems and are working on them!

@ one of your other comments (the thread has become too nested), the skill is now in the box that opens up when you click a row instead of listed in the table.

I believe it is in A/B testing. Some people have it. Some people don't. Usually it is just a matter of time before it moves from testing to rolling out to everyone. Right now, it is not yet working correctly, which is frustrating in a different way.

How right you are! I remain impressed that you are obviously still using it!!

Out of hundreds of words, I got it down to 30 words that don't work. Don't want to have it increase to more than 30 that aren't strengthened! :-) However, I too am getting close to moving on. :-( Maybe bchan will reply to your question above.

It would be so good to get a response from the team, so that we knew what is happening, if there is a problem and if a fix is planned. My vocabulary is at 1800 words, and I still have pages of seriously overdue words on the tab, though my whole tree is gold. I don't seem to be making any effect on the word list in spite of daily, substantial practice!
