How are interpuncts used in latin?

The interpunct appears on gboard when typing in Latin, when exactly is it used?

To separate words:

I know that much but which words in particular? I see them at the top, but not the bottom, why's that?

I think it's used here because the "Dis Manibus" is an abbreviation of a longer phrase.

In this case, the "Dis Manibus" is a frequently-used inscription on gravestones like this and in full would be "Dis Manibus Sacrum" - roughly translated as "to the memory of." Often abbreviated as here, or found as "D.M.S" or just "D.M"

My guess is that they primarily used it in titles, long ones.
