I still feel pretty new myself lol. I've been on here less than two weeks! It really helps if you practice what you learn over and over again. For example, if you are in the store, pay attention to the people around you and think to yourself if they are un hombre or una mujer: un niño or una niña. Use the words you learn as much as possible. Also practice listening to the language so you will get used to the sound. When I started doing that, I began to hear the "separation" of the words rather than it sounding like the words were are jumbled together. I think that is helping me even if I don't understand what's being said.

Bienvenido a la comunidad! (Welcome to the community!) :D

Here are a couple of links I think all beginners should have:

(Unofficial) Duolingo wiki (in beta right now)

and

Duolingo website guidelines

My suggestions are to get a Timed Practice from the lingot store (located on the Home tab) as soon as you can and then to use it Daily as part of your review. Here are 10 lingots to help you get it. (Lingots= little jewels attached to the bottom of your main post.)

Also, read everything out loud, even when Duolingo doesn't prompt you.

Next, don't be shy to seek outside resources to help you with grammar and pronunciation.

Good luck!! ^_^

Is the timed practice a one time thing? Or can you use it more than once without repurchasing? How is it different than playing a bot or human?

@altlmiss

You can use it over and over again as many times as you'd like. It encourages faster memory recall by giving you a time limit. For each answer you get correct, you receive 1 XP that stays with you even if you run out of time before answering all of the questions.
