I totally think that this English sentence can also be "see" as in with my eyes. Looking out on the beach I do not see men, but women instead.

"em vez de" dont work at the end of a sentence. "Ao invés" would fit better, but not used too...

Wouldn't: "Eu não vou com homens" mean I don't go with men. Why couldn't both that one and the solution they gave be right?

That well confused me. I imagined "see" as in vision rather than "go out with" or "date"!
