Is there a difference between "Nach eil i teth?" and "Chan eil i teth"? I was trying to translate "nach eil" without contractions and it just ended up being the same as "Chan eil":

  • chan eil = am/is/are not
  • nach eil = am/is/are not

Is that incorrectly translated by me?

  • Nach eil [e]…? = "isn't it?", e.g. negative interrogative; it's a question (usually, idiomatically can do other things)
  • Chan eil [e]… = "it is not", e.g. negative statement

Why isn't "A bheil i teth?" correct?
