Yes it definitely is.

The New Zealand city of Dunedin gets its name from the Gaelic word for Edinburgh, and indeed it is our most Scottish city, nicknamed "The Edinburgh of the South".

Sadly, in these days of lockdown, neither Edinburgh nor Dunedin are probably very busy places at the moment. :-(

There is also a lovely town in Florida, US called Dunedin which has an active Scottish American Society.

I absolutely LOVE this recording! It is my favorite so far. She is fantastic. Can I meet her? She sounds like a true Highlander. I can picture her passionate about how busy Edinburgh is compared to her place in the isles. (and it is!)

Dùn = fort Èideann = 'Eidyn', the old Celtic name for the region where Edinburgh lies.

But doesn't it mean Fort?
